At what point is a person a LDOP a fool on a stool
shambley replied to Parkwahn's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
I spend my money how the feck I want. I have enough money when I visit and don't need to stand in the cheap charlie queue and spend all night hunting to save me 500 or a 1000 baht, I am on holiday and time is money, I have been known to ring a bell or two , over paid a girl or two, generally I have a great time and get more chance of a repeat if I want it, I can see how an ex-pat needs to be more patient and not squander his living allowance - but i'm not an ex-pat and don't give a fuck about ruining the scene for some ex-pat. My scene is doing quiet nicely. if this means some smelly expat living on fumes has to go home cos he can't afford pussy on his pension - feckin shame 555 The true looser LDOP to me is the one who doesn't know how to say No, doesn't have the budget to keep up with his bell ringing lifestyle, only holidays a week when he could stay a month if he calmed down. and came over to find a "girlfriend" to settle down with. I am lucky enough to get 3 or 4 months a year - never have a budget and ring as many bells as I like and take as many giks as I like. Now I prefer some of the bar girls but gogo girls are good for short time but generally need a lot more interview to make sure they are not a dud. If anyone wants to give me advise -- speak to the hand cos the penis isn't listening! 5555555 -
Took 600 cigs back with me last month - only had hand luggage - 200 in duty free plastic bag on show and 400 in hand luggage -- waved through without a blink

Noise level on LK Metro
shambley replied to midlifecrisis's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
Stopped staying in LK metro for that very reason, The guest house owners that are left would have us believe it is not that bad unfortunately on the ground experience proves otherwise -
They are selling Ipads in duty free and BKK airport, didn't spot the price but maybe someone on the way out can post - not sure if you can get to duty free on the way in though ?

I'm thinking of a trip for whole of April. Never done and not really interested in songkran. Hear a load of people run out of town during that week, where so people go. is Philippines a good option, rough costs ? anywhere else people like to go ?

Do you have a preference what time you fly?
shambley replied to MCCREADY8's topic in Airline Discussion
The Friday 9-9.30 pm flights with EVA or Thai air are perfect for me - can charge for a work day Friday and still get to Heathrow - sleep on plane and be fresh on arrival. can get to hotel, check-in, freshen up and be in the bars for the evening. Going back on a Sunday and landing 7.30pm is OK get home 11pm and start work Monday - usually I make Monday my work from home day. ideally i would prefer to get back 4pm and have enough time to wind down. -
Looking for the spice: Saffron
shambley replied to rmicheald's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
I wasn't listening properly at catering college as a youth so I remember the lecturer telling us cochineal ( natural red food colouring) comes from crushed beetles and saffron was from "locusts" I held that view for 10 years .. Doh! -

Best place to get American food in Bangkok
shambley replied to short's topic in Restaurants and food
I love the USA and Brit bashing - two mongrel nations trying to take a claim on purity of dishes, In my youth, trained in french classical cookery ( as most British chefs are) and working as a head chef for .. lets say a while. Some of my favorite food in the world is American New Orleans classics, apparently a lot of people who live over their turn there nose up at the red neck food!! feckin ingrates.!! Some of my all time favorites. Gumbo - that dish best cooked in an oil drum for 200 people with a black roux - never heard of it before studying american food at catering college - (white roux for milk based sauces - blonde for chicken/fish stock based, brown for beef stock base) but black roux only used in one place in the world and as far as I know only one dish. Jambalaya best riced based dish ever for me - keep your stir fried rices Dutch apple pie, German dogs, Chop suey a classic on many Chinese menus was invented in MM's home town of San Francisco - America has some fantastic food But I think the need for any nation like USA or UK to claim a dish as their very own invention is pretty funny , BBQ - even the marinade - was popular in Rome and recipes still exist for their sweet and sour BBQ marinades. I've looked at some of EP's photo's and embarrassed to say only recognized 80% and only cooked 40%, As for British food, we have LOST more dishes before America was created than they have now, we had pasta in 100AD before the roman's!! - but then again I believe it came from Ireland 5555 British food has been exotic in times of plenty and bland in times of sacrifice, If us Brits think we invented the roast dinner -- erm .. that's right - no fecker on the planet would of thought of putting meat in an oven and sticking some veg with it before us 55555555 Didn't Marco Polo bring the potato from china ? can't have a Sunday roast without the Chinese roast spuds - Marco being a good British name and all 555 Sorry I'm drunk 555 -
what and were is drinking street?
shambley replied to unziped's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
I've been only a couple of times to drinking street - had a good time with some very friendly ladies, Was pre-warned to avoid the bars next to second road - high drinks prices and high barfines, presumably because of higher rents and prime location. I went with Jamie first time, who also avoided a couple of other bars in the complex that he thought were dodgy. In all had a good few hours there and tempted to barfine but other bars to visit and night still young. I don't think it's to be avoided but agree with Gabor that their are some high barfines and LD's in a few bars. -

roo m8 thanks for the heads up on another place to investigate , in the last 2 years , ive taken exchange rate to heart - many places can loose you as much as 10% on exchange rates, Over my last 9 visits in 24 months, some for a month at a time i've almost taken it as a hobby to look at exchange rates in passing - infact my teelaks de jour have run across roads to look for me, knowing its a hobby of mine and show willing as baht is very close to thier heart - in fact i have had skype and text where they have even given a heads up on places after i've been home, The problem with exhange booths is - I did a sense of loyalty when they have being do well every visit but not anymore I have no such loyalty after a conversation with a thia exhange booth owner, my last visit, a new small booth in soi dianna, and beat my constant win for best booth on soi buakowe oppersite LK metro, 3 yellow TTT booths , 2 on beach road and 1 on 2nd road where worthy second place. my new ruke is never be loyal, never think managment dont change - never think its all realitvely the same - go to the exhange booth in mikes mall as an example of the 10% loss wish we could keep a thread with constant updates as i think that post will help alot reagrds shambley

I couldnt get an EVA flight the day I wanted direct through EVA website but could get an EVA flight through 3rd part reseller - seems they sell a load of seats to 3rd parties so when they say flight full that may be just the allocation they have kept for themselves to sell. Im guessing the 4 seats they have left are elite class rather than economy as they seems closer to the price range I use with elite class, Regards Rob
