Remember that Oz has a relatively small population - just a bit more than a third of the UK's. Also, you don't need to leave your country to get some sunshine - we Brits don't have that luxury :chogdee

We had sunshine just last year, third of August it was, afternoon. I remember it well. :clueless

When you find your comfort zone in a foreign country. It's easy to do the same thing over and over. Especially if your having fun with little hassle. I come back to Pattaya frequently and do the same

Funny you should ask that question? I've been to the following:   Australia New Zealand China Singapore Malaysia Indonesia Japan Taiwan Vietnam Cambodia India South Africa Egypt Israe

Vietnam. Without a doubt French/Vietnamese mix. Absolutely gorgeous.

At which point you're in Perth, still many hours of flight eastward from actually Australia (sorry, you tiny minority of Australians but there you are). There is a REASON there are buggarall flights from Bangkok to Darwin.

.

You are not wrong. There are no direct flights from Darwin to Bangkok either. Last November I left Darwin with Jetstar at 1820 and arrived in Singapore at 2120 PM. That was too late to catch the connecting flight to Bangkok and I had to wait until 0710 the following morning to catch the Tigerairways flight to Bangkok, which arrived at 0830. The time difference between Darwin and Bangkok is 2 and a half hours, so I arrived in Bangkok at 11AM Darwin time. So it took almost 17 hours to get here. On a positive note, the flights are dirt cheap, as long as you pick the right dates on your computer a couple of month in advance. There are direct flights from Darwin to Hanoi and Ho Chi Min City with Jetstar. I might give it a try on my next trip home in a few months time and get to see a bit of Vietnam on the way. A friend arrived at Suvarnabhumi airport on a direct flight with Thaiairways from Brisbane a few days ago. The flight time flight was under 11 hours.

If you want to meet lots of Aussies, go to Bali. It is our favourite holiday destination. Bali is only a couple of hours flying time from Darwin, has clean beaches and some very good surf. The Balinese people are friendlier than the Thais, in my opinion There are some very cheap flights from Bangkok to Bali with Air Asia. I am surprised so many young people keep going to the same country on their vacation, to the same city, same Soi, same hotel and the same bar, year after year, to spend their hard-earned money. :thumbup

According to Evil's statistics, only 10% more Brits come to these shores than Ozzies. Not bad considering the difference in populations.

There might be even more if the flights weren't so expensive. It's cheaper to fly to Heathrow from here than to Sydney, and I think it's cheaper to fly from London to Bangkok than from Sydney to Bangkok.

I find the results difficult to believe.

I have only been to Patts 4 times but I cannot believe

the amount of Ozzies I have run into.

I sit at a bar and automaticaly say gidday and

get a gidday straight back.

I am having a foot massage and the guy on my

left is from Perth Oz and the one on me right

is from Melbourne Oz WTF.

I roll into a bar on Beach Rd order a drink and a bloke

hears me and says gidday he's from Sydney

I jump in the pool at the hotel 3 blokes in there all

army dudes fro Queensland on leave fron Afghanistan

Went over in November to play golf half the blokes I

played with were from OZ

Same Same happened in Phuket many years ago

Australia was not hit hard by the GFC and unemployment

is at an all time low 5%.

Theres a lot of people around with a lot of money

take into account that OZ workers get 4 weeks annual leave and a lot

get 3 months long service leave after 10 years, with a 12 hour flight

and you have a heaps of tourists taking up the cheap

flights thru Jetstar and Air Asia

Lets see, Americas population is 10 times Australia, that should suggest the amount of Americans will be 10 to 1.

So why does it puzzle you that there are at least double........

Sorry...forgot you are an Aussie.

Hahahahahahahhaa

A 'sheep shagger' having a go at an Aussie......how unique!....lol

Seriously though Gimmble....I understand what you are saying....but Americans have many other p4p options available to them much closer to home.

Costa Rica....Dominican Republic...Medellin and Cali in Colombia and there are many other places I am sure. So I feel a greater percentage of Americans would be using these venues due to convenience.

We are a hell of a lot closer....and I feel our numbers are disappointing....when compared with Britts and the Americans.

Direct flight from UK is about 12 hours.

Met and made friends with a few aussies out thier I would disagree with the poll - I think there are more aussies from my encounters over in Patts

Maybe it's just a case of they are as bad at doing polls as they are at cricket

:grin-jump

edit : P.S. didnt realise that is you ricky to start off with - congrats on post 100 by the way :P

This has nothing to do with cricket Rob....but enjoy it while it lasts....lol :chogdee

I have to agree with comments re; Bali

I was in Bali for the first time in October 2010. I took my kids there. It was ok...but I am not a surfer....even though I tried...lol....and I didn't like it in comparison to Thailand or even the Philippines.

The traffic is horrendous!

There is p4p.....but on a very small scale compared to anywhere in Thailand....or the Philippines.

I couldn't relax on the beach....'massage'....'tattoos'....'manicure'...and more.....every 20 seconds. I even tried to pretend I was asleep.....and they tapped me on the feet!!!

In the end they chased me off the beach and back to my Hotel pool :chogdee

The place is full of Aussie tourists......and when I asked them if they had been to bali before....most said they had been coming every year....for years.

I always made a point of asking them if they had ever been to Thailand.....and 80% said no!!! :P

I won't be going back to Bali anytime soon. :grin-jump

You can't beat Pattaya.....the bars....the bands....the gorgeous ladies....the Thai food....the cheap accomodation.....the baht bus service.....its just perfect as far as I can see.

But Iam no 'Paul Hogan'....if the rest of Australia wants to go to Bali......so be it :thumbup

Its our secret! :chogdee

Bali is the shithole of the world. Went there once, could not get out of there quick enough. Was sick the whole time from street stalls and restaurants alike. Sorry to disagree. Give me Thailand every day of the week.

You can check the "total bullshit" box for me too. Bali is beautiful and the people friendly -- and the Balinese don't have the coolee mentality you often encounter here. They talk to you like an equal and expect the same.

Kuta Beach is a shithole, you do need to get away from it and see the rest of the island.

You got sick once, and Bali will forever pay? Nonsense. Bali is a terrific place, with wonderful people. Of course it's not for everyone, and not for you. That hardly says it's the shithole of the world -- which is most certainly is not, or even in line for the title. If you rate Bali that low, you haven't been to too many places. Sorry you got sick, but that's Bali's fault.

Met quite a few Aussies, many more Brits though.

Haven't noticed any terrorist attacks in Thailand killing multiple Aussies.

Seen a couple on the news in Bali over the years. They exacute drug smugglers but go easy on terrorists. Fuck Bali, I don't care how cheap it is or how nice the people are. The country fucking sucks.
