Where To Go To Watch The 2011 World Cup Rugby, help Wanted, see pics

Recommended Posts

See Link for details of the world cup rugby starting the Fri 9th September

http://www.rugbyworldcup.com/home/pools/index.html

As i know i can not afford to watch the whole of the world cup games which last about 6 weeks in NZ as

I think I would not get much change from £8000 approx total spend for every thing.

What is my next best thing I can do .

As I live in Thailand i am looking for the following information,

Where in Thailand ,could be Patts /BKK,Chang Mia ,Phucket ,ect

be the best sporting bars in Thailand showing the rugby world cup games

Also looking for any Rugby supporter could be xpats or ppl on holiday who be watching the games and where.

Is there a Branch of any rugby union supporters clubs here in Thailand,as im sure these people will know the best places with a good crowd watching the rugby with plenty of beers.

I have looked at many of the games ,which the games start in NZ at 6pm /8pm/9pm

So here in Thailand the games will start noon ,2pm/3pm as Thailand is 6 hours behind NZ time.

So it looks like its going to be many afternoon sessions on the beer and if good results for your team could be long days and nights ,I hope.

I will look at going on holiday for 4/6 weeks, some where in Thailand where I can find a great sporting bar which also have a good crowd in following the rugby .SO WHERE CAN I FIND THIS PLACE ,help wanted please

I was thinking maybe BKK may be the best bet ,but may be wrong

As I would not want to stop full time in BKK ,i could always travel down every week end from Khon Kaen as

its only a 6 hour journey ,stop Fri/Sat/Sun nights then back to Khon Kaen every Mon.

Be like going to work every week end haha.

Also the games in the afternoon so will not effect any foot ball on ,bet bar owners be happy with this.

Maybe we could get a list together who will watch the games ,then we could have a good party atmosphere together

I'll still be in Thailand on my long summer trip at the start of the World Cup. (I return to the UK on 23 September).

I reckon Metro Apartments will be a great place to watch the rugby. Dennis seems to get a good crowd in for most rugby games, so can't imagine the world cup will be any different.

Cheers

Mick – I spent the entire 6 weeks of the last world cup perched on a bar stool at the Metro Apartments – As tallguy said. Dennis always gets a good crowd in for the rugby and I'm sure this time will be no different – Without a doubt the best location in Pattaya for Rugby, wether it be 6 nations, Heineken Cup or Super 15 !

THE DRUNKEN DUCK

will be showing all the rugby games on our

50'' and 2 42'' tv's

come in and enjoy

Sounds Good Bob

Maybe you could put some promotion on some of the games,to try to attract more fans of rugby in,

Im sure few places will show games ,but its other supporters of the game being at the venue showing

makes it a good day/night.

I will still keep list of fans in Patts who will watch the rugby so we can all meet up for some good drinking and atmosphere.

I know its not till sep 9th ,on for 6 weeks ,week ends the best viewing ,so plenty of time to plan some things.

As a keen Kiwi rugby follower I know about the jack Tar to watch the games.

But this is the first time I have heard about the Metro apartments bar.

Can anyone tell me how to find it?

Grit

Its on Soi LK Metro, an Lshaped soi which runs between Soi Buakhao and Soi Dianna. If you walk down from Soi Buakhao, Metro Apartments is on the left hand side about half way down.

Attached is a link to a map http://metro-apartments-pattaya.com/location.php.

Its also an aircon bar so more comfortable to watch a game in than somewhere like Jack Tar.

Dennis was in the bar at 6.30 am some mornings for the ashes, so I am sure he will make it into the bar for at least some, if not all the rugby games, particularly when Ireland are playing.

Looking forward to see you in September.

No there were a few nights he went home early the night before to be in the bar when the cricket started. Needless to say this didn't happen every day!!!

Mick – Might be able to wangle a couple of weeks during finals time.

I still have great memories of the last world cup. Dennis gets some really passionate English rugby fans in for the games and the camaraderie and atmosphere was great.

One of his mates, big Phil is the type of supporter who yells at the screen, abuses the ref and berates his team if they fuck up. He's a really nice guy and very knowledgeable regarding the sport. As such, during the lead up games we became good mates and would rib each other all the time.

So the day dawned when the show down between England & Australia was to take place and unbeknown to Phil I'd gone out and purchased Aussie rugby jerseys for all of Dennis's girls to wear – Honestly the look on Phil's face when he walked in was absolutely fucking priceless.

Sadly for me the result didn't go our way but the English supporters were fantastic to get pissed with that night.

Thanks Tallguy...I must walk past it at least once a day when I am in town, but have never been in. Am focused on other things when in Soi LK Metro!

Next time when I am in town will go in for a look and to watch a Super 15 Game. Am a Blues supporter (woe) and a closet Chiefs supporter.

Here is a message I got from a Rugby Union Club in Bangkok

Hi Mick.

The Old Bangkok Bangers are a rugby playing and socialising club based in Bangkok. We have 17 nationalities in the team, with quite a few Englishmen, including our Club Captain, Andrew Tatam.

Rumour has it that ESPN/Star will be picking up the RWC feed. You can contact them via their website and find out for sure if you wish. Otherwise we are hoping that some of the pubs will be able to get back in contact with the satellite feed that used to be available from the Super Sports channels from South Africa. Alternately it is possible to use a 'sling-box' to get an overseas cable provider's channels fed into Thailand via the net with excellent quality. They don't like it done to commercial establishments though, so that can be contoversial if discovered! The last option is to stream it in via one of the multitude of internet sites. Ther'ye still not the best quality feeds though.

For streaming, this site is normally pretty good:

http://www.sportstreamlive.tv/

But as always, it's hit and miss as to whether a given feed is any good (or even available).

If SuperSport can be found again here in SE Asia, that would be great. But my understanding is that they changed the satellite settings so there's no longer a signal to grab in this region. It's really unfortunate that no one could come to an agreement on that, because SuperSport was the best rugby channel going.

Dr. Mick, you could also add Jack Tar bar on Soi 6 as a possible venue. Some days, we might be interested in sports other than watching rugby and I've heard that Soi 6 has *ahem* some alternative entertainment available for those so inclined.

Really looking forward to the WC and I hope we can get a good group together. I travel a lot to the Philippines, but I'll be sure to be in Pattaya for the WC if there's a fun crew on hand to enjoy the games with. My team (Canada) will totally suck and will be lucky to beat even Japan but I don't care. It's rugby, after all! :hairout

So true Damon - I'm with you - In the end it's not about winning and loosing - It's all about the game and the spirit it is played in !

Supersports is no longer available in Thailand - the SA provider switched from C-Band to Ku-Band transmissions. I'm now on Astro Malaysia and their website indicates that Star Sports will be picking up the RWC.

The Queen Vic will probably be showing it..... RWC + Guinness!!! :whistling:

I have just found out Pattaya do have a Rugby Club

Just wonder if anybody knows about this club also has anybody been to Irish Pub Jamesons and how near is this place to Soi LK

Welcome to the official Pattaya Panthers and Panties website. Rugby on the Eastern Seaboard of Thailand depends mainly on visiting teams for local tours and tournaments such as the now famous Chris Kays Memorial Rugby Tournament (formerly the Pattaya 10

The Panthers and Panties also tour and grace rugby pitches throughout Asia. Our spiritual home is the fantastic Irish Pub Jameson's and many of us can been seen there at Nova Tablee, drinking and generally entertaining everybody with our wit and humour (or maybe not).

I'm having a rethink now on my Aug/Sep trip, may be there from about 24-Sep on to catch the last week of group games. I'll probably be staying in the LK Metro area again so will keep track of this thread to see what's happening.

Glyn.
