His idea, that most of the hungarian restaurants around the world are frauds. In this he is right, whenever I visited in any country - even in Hungary on the tourist places - it was a joke not hungarian food.

BUT, my idea is, that who the hell will interested in hungarian food in Pattaya??? Maybe some hungarian tourists, but they are a few. So, please help us to known, that he is really so cracked as I think?

Once in a 2-week trip, certainly.

Afterwards, if it was good and food on other guests' plates looked interesting, too.

Anyway, good luck to your friend.

Baz... no eh,eh... really not me. I am sceptic with this stuff. For example for me would be absolutely not interesting a lithuanian restaurant in Pattaya. Unless nice and friendly ladies  8) However we have about 20 kind of goulashes, but hungarian food is far not only goulashes. Look the sites.

Babepecker. Ok, thanx, but you are anyway neighbor  ;D

( if the flag is correct )

I voted no.

The restaurant scene in Pattaya is almost more crowded than the bar scene.

I've been living here for 5 years and still have a number of restaurants I want to check out but haven't got to yet.  If I'm not eating Thai I tend to stick to the farang eaterys that have a great reputation already like Bronos or Mata Hari.

A few years ago a lot of Russian restauraunts sprang up to coincide with an increase in Russian tourists.  Most folded (and Russian food sucks  ;D)

If your friend is serious and wants to make a go off a resteraunt in Pattaya I reckon broader fare than Hungarian would be required.

BTW most good restaurants also serve Thai food based on the very sensible idea that a lot of tourists take their bg to eat with them and most bgs will only eat Thai.

Magyar food is great cold weather food when you are freezing your ass off in Europe but Thai food in LOS is best.

Two or more Hungarian restos in the same street? The Goulash Archipelago...

Well Pete, I guess you are correct and right. That was my idea too. Anyway a good idea - I never tought - the thai food in any restaurant, sensible to the BG.

Russian food is good, but bloody expensive if really good. ( caviar, salmon, sturgeon etc :-))

Johnny K  [smiley=devil.gif] yeah, The Goulash Archipelago with little bloodrinking angry, hungry hungarian monsters...  [smiley=devil.gif]

By the way I personally eat in Pattaya only thai, maybe once a week some burger kind. After 2 week pure thai nurishment I got sick after some egg salad.  [smiley=doh.gif]

I would love to see a Hungarian Restaurant in Pattaya and in San Antonio Texas as well. IF it is up and running by Oct/Nov, we will stop in for sure.  Keep us posted.

Also would love a Chek Restaurant both places.

I don’t often disagree with Pete but on this topic I do.   I was privileged to eat real Hungarian food in several quaint places in Budapest and found the food to be quite delightful.  An order of magnitude better than say your typical English fare.  Really good Hungarian restaurants are not common so one would have a definite niche thing going for it in Pattaya.

BTW, I find that the food in Pattaya is one of its attractions.  Certainly not the biggest attraction, but definitely a very pleasant one.  One of my goals is to try every restaurant in Pattaya and I hope it takes many years to accomplish. It’s really nice to have all the German fare and even the best Fish and Chips that I have ever tasted.  Pattaya definitely has a lot going for it.

I agree with the irishman about the many options available in Pattaya.  I wish this site included a restaurant section similiar to the hotel section where members could posts reviews and recommendations about their favorite greasy spoons.

Irishman, I'm glad if you have some good memories from my city. Can you tell me where you tried the "several quaint places in Budapest " ? Then we can discuss  [smiley=nod.gif] What food you tried? Just as a private chit-chat. I am a gourmet, but anyway think, that Pete is right, hungarian cousine is too " not in the story " type in Pattaya. Or maybe not? Personally in your place ( not hungarian ) I would be absolutely not interested in any far and little countries cousine.  I opened this topic to save my friend form the bad experiences as many guys do with beerbars.

BTW, Pete... I made a big mistake, I started this discuss in the "only for members " section. Can you give an open for everyone link for this topic?

Emil... verrry good idea about the restaurant topic. I have to add, that it have to be not only a restaurant topic, but a general food topic. I would be happy to share any Pattaya experience, even change some recipes, read about your Pattaya or non Pattaya gastronomical adventures. As you see I am a big friend of the good food, hehehe, that's why my friend turned to me moreover I am a Pattaya fan.

I voted no because I believe "When in Rome, do as the Romans do." I eat Thai food a lot in LOS, but also have an American breakfast daily.  Can' help it! Gotta have my bacon & eggs!

As already stated, if your friend does open, I would include Thai food as well.

Good Luck!

If he can staff it with Hungarian babes that would be great. IMHO 2nd best babes in the world...but a distant 2nd as there is no real competition.

If the question was about my hometown I'd answer yes, but in Pattaya I have to give a realistic "no" as an answer.

I'm just not going to think, "hey, look!  There's a Hungarian place!" when I'm walking around in Pattaya.

If there was one on Sukumwit in Bangkok I'd probably think of going though.

Odd huh?  Just different feels to different places.  Pattaya is so dominated by the P4P scene that the other stuff fades into the background and becomes unimportant, while in Bangkok I seem to be able to do more regular stuff and actually care about things such as where I eat.

Sorry guy, I voted no.

I've actually been to Hungary - spent a week in Budapest.  And while the food was fine, I'm not going all the way over to Thailand to eat Hungarian food.  I'm gonna eat Thai food as much as I can.

Just an add. A guy wrote me from Phuket, he is hungarian and owns a hungarian restaurant-guesthouse and bar. He informed me, that in his kitchen all the food made from original hungarian stock by the hungarian cook. His prices for a food 160-280 baht, Heineken is 70 baht.

Adress is:

Kicking Donkey Guesthouse, Thai-Magyar Etterem

80/19-20 Soi Permpong Pattana 3 (Soi Dr Wattana), Patong Beach, Kathu, Phuket

He informed me about the wide range of the nationalities of the guests and about the current situation, wich is pretty miserable, because of the deficit of the tourists. If anyone around and have a mood drop in, he will welcome you. And if.. pls. write your comments here.

I voted maybe... love Eastern European food, don't know Hungarian as well as some of the others but I'd give it a shot... then again, I tend to eat on the cheap in Pattaya so if it's a pricier place I might never get to it.
