I have been quite impressed by the IP locator stuff discussed here lately, you are very knowledgeable Mr Frosty and others.

I have slow loading of threads (Firefox 4.0 with Adblock Plus)....

I click on a thread and it hangs a bit, before it jumps to new posts.

Firefox seems to show me what the hold up is (I can hit the stop button to hurry it up), and a message is displayed during the hang lower left or right of the screen

'Connecting To www.google-analytics.com' this message may flash on and off several times indicating multiple communications to google.

Who is spying on me? Can I (and should I) get around this?

It is slow for me the last day or so as well, and I run Explorer. Maybe it's not your issue? Maybe it's a server issue?

Google Analytics is not something you need to worry about... it is a google service that monitors website traffic and provides statistics that help webmasters find trouble spots on websites - such as pages that get too many hits, files that take too long to download, etc. Its not used for anything "weird", and generally speaking it usually does not slow down website loading...

That said, there may be some sort of slow-down between your ISP and googles servers that are causing the slow down... but aside from making some pretty wild changes to your operating systems files there is nothing you can do to speed it up.

Looks like Ptalk is running pretty good to me... things load up as fast as any other site does from Thailand.... The one thing I miss from the USA is the internet speed :)

How long did it take you to type this respons

I'm guessing about a tenth the time it took me to type this response.

See you soon mate.

Yeah, what Frosty said. If it's not something that happens to everyone, and from the responses, it appears it isn't, then it's probably the connection from your location to google servers...or pattayatalk servers.

I've not noticed it being particularly slow myself.

Strange...

Edit ****************

Found it! PattayaTalk does have this tracking code installed on their main home page www.pattayatalk.com. Therefore the reason for the hang is a delay in the connection from your PC to the Google Servers as they store any relevant information!

You will find this code on Line 79 of this page here http://www.pattayatalk.com/index.html

<script src="http://www.google-analytics.com/urchin.js" type="text/javascript">

Edit ****************

"Google" analytics's is a "service" provided by "Google" to monitor where traffic originates from and how well their ad's if any are doing using their "Googles" "Adwords program". It involves the hosters or developers of the relevant web-site placing a line of code from Google within their web-page. Having done that "Google Analytics" can now monitor that script to determine where visitors to that web-site come from, how long they stay and which pages they view and even IP address as well as how you came to arrive at that page, i.e. from a search engine or from a link in another site. It can also be used to decide which ads to display on the web-page you are reading by taking note of the relevant content within the rest of the page.

If PattayaTalk does not have this analytics script in their pages then you should not see this code or delay.

It may be that you may have a "BHO" or browser helper object which is buried within your browser that is sending information about your browsing habits to someone or organisation to be compiled and then possibly sold on to advertising companies etc. to decide which ads to show you.

Thanks, that makes sense, but it sure looks like google-analytics is a bottleneck for me and more the cause than the solution. I worry about it because it is interfering and causing me delay, and I do not grasp why. Do the damned analysis after my page has loaded, don't freeze me google! Sometimes the bantering back and forth gets lost. It also seems to be 'worse' in the last 2 weeks, perhaps the clock changes cause me to hit more traffic. But more ominously it started when I upgraded to Firefox 4.0...... ^_^

Why are google responsible for analysing website traffic between me in Pattaya and PT hosted in the USA anyhow? ... Surely they are just a search engine/ email provider and to be honest their nose in my traffic does seem detrimental.

Good response from Paul BRS too.....so it is big brother!

You can install NoScript, a free Mozilla/Firefox add-in and then it will filter out, e.g. not load scripts of your choosing. Especially google analytics.

Thanks mate.

That seems to be doing the trick, threads clicking in much better now.

It does block other things, like U-Tube feeds, but a temporary disable gets around that.

Thanks again.

One drawback to NoScript is nearly everything stops working at first. When you get a web page with nothing happening, right click and select NoScript and generally just allow the name of the site itself is usually all you have to do. Don't be surprised when you see 10 other scripts running along with the site you are actually surfing. It remembers your choices. You always see google. Always.

Another good one for the pop-ups etc., also free is AdBlock Plus. It knocks out all the spying going on and a lot of ads. You can block all those javascript and flash ads that slow things down while still enjoying the site. You will see little block icons next to the items harassing you, just click that and then they go away.

Yeah I got the Adblock Plus already, as I stated in my OP. The bloody great ADs at the top of the Yahoo email pages forced my hand on that one.

I have to add that I have removed Noscript.

And that in itself was a bit of an effort.

I am just not technically competent enough to deal with this feature and it blocks too many necessary things. Particularly when relating to booking engines.
