Recommended Posts

Hello

I have used the Estiny Residence hotel soi10 for my last 3 trip,s

to Pattaya

BUT NEVER AGAIN

I checked in on the 4th april got my room

put all my valuables in the safety box behind reception

hotel work,s with 2 key system,

guest has one key, hotel has one

I checked out on the 7th at 9pm to catch my flight on the 8th at 2.30am

I gave the manager my key he got his key and opened my safety box

IT WAS EMPTY

Everything was STOLEN

My passport 2 credit cards ,flight tickets ,cash $330 and 2 memory card,s16gb

I had to stay in Pattaya 5 days longer than planned

Somehow get up to Bangkok to get temporary passport , pay for flight ticket

A total F//K up

I am not going into a detailed report of the hassle but

BE CAREFUL AT

EASTINY RESIDENCE HOTEL

MY PROPERTY WAS STOLEN FROM SAFETY BOX

ps I have a detailed report which I can scan if needed

Sorry to hear about this. Did you report it to the BIB or take it up with the manager or owner? You seem pretty calm about it. I know I would have raised one hell of a ruckus over something like this. It is good to know about this though. One more good reason to have this forum to keep BM apprised of goings on like this.

Quite a business killing charge to hang on a successful group of hotels..................would like to hear more details before crossing this hotel chain off.

Yes, I'd like to see the scanned police report.

I too would like to hear more detail about this! This sounds too bad to be true!

How did management explain it? What did the BIB do? :thumbup

I recently had money stolen from an electronic in room safe so no longer trust them so rely heavily on the "security" of the safety deposit boxes and if I can't trust those then I'm fucked!

I see your point. After all, he has used the hotel for three trips. Sounds like someone with a grudge. easy going, spike is a VIP here. Better cough up that police report scan. Or, you don't, and let spike his chances the next time he is in town. Guess which one I vote for?

....don't quite know what yer on about :thumbup ....but, if you want to take the word of an internet poster you've never met...and has all of 12 posts...which I've read ......well, that's up2U... :D

me, I'm a bit more cautious and believe about 10% of what I read on any mongers forum... it's works for me.

edit...you must not have read his post...he already offered to scan the report.

One of the reasons I like to stay at small guesthouses is security. They usually have in-room safes and, depending on the place, there may be someone at the front desk 24/7. I've never had a problem. They usually keep an eye on who's coming and going.

Still, I try not to leave many valuables in the safe. A passport, some extra ATM cards or whatever, and perhaps a small amount of cash. I always have e-tickets for my flight, so there's no airplane tickets to lose.

And there's always insurance.

There are a lot of members that are lurkers. Some never post. You could be on to something though, his first two post are suspect. But it does look like he is loyal to places he stays in. Of his 12 posts, this is the only one saying anything bad about anything.

As I posted once I have had some money removed from my box behind reception.

I didn't lose the whole lot, but some TCs were taken.

At this point I don't see any reason to doubt the OP, I would appreciate some more details on how he interacted with the BIB.

Generally deposit boxes are under security cameras.

that's just it...the OP was cleaned out...he lost everything in the box, not one or two TC's...which makes it sound like the thief wasn't a shy "hope you don't notice I ripped you off" front desk employee...

and if it was an outside "Ocean's 11" type job... why didn't every safety deposit box get cleaned out...why just his? :allright

a lot of questions swirling around this caper.....

sincerely,

I'm with you spike, I can see some hotel employee taking a little and hope it's not noticed, but to clean out the box of everything and just the one box.

I have stayed there twice in the past and will spend the first 3 days of my next trip in July. I would like to also have more details of what happened and most of all what the hotel did to help the OP out. Of course all they (hotel) say is "how do we know whats in your safty box"?

I have always had the mindset that the safey boxes behind the desk were the safest compaired to the ones in the room. The hotels tell you that the key you have is the only copy of that key and if you loose it, a locksmith must be called to be able to get back into your box at sometimes a cost of $50 US or more. I would think that the hotels do have an extra key just in case the one you have is lost. A few times over the years I have checked into a hotel with in a in room safe to find the previous person didn't follow the instructions and left the safe door opened and also locked. Call the front desk and up they come with an electronic gaget and your safe is open in a mater of a few seconds. Whats to stop them from doing that when your not in the room?

If this did happen, I would hope the Eastiny Residence would step up and take responsibility, but hey TIT. I sure would mind to spend an extra 5 days in the LOS, but not this way. Change my return flight cost $150 US and extra if they don't have the same class seat available, which at the last minute they wouldn't and one time it was going to cost me about $800 US just to change my flight a few days later. Then you also have the extra hotel expense and going to the embassy in Bangkok to get a replacement passport.

Again hoped the hotel took care of it and also would like to hear a update from the OP. I have also stayed at a few of the other Eastiny's in past and have ever had any kind of problems so won't cancel my 'prepaid' reservation at this time.

might have told this before but will again.

i once took my stuff from a hotel behind counter safety box and when i got up to my room opened my passport and some paper flew out and across the floor. looked like a foreign exchange receipt. but i never keep mine. picked it up and sure enough, opened it, it was some other bloke's. he'd cashed t/c's on a day i'd never done and of a denomination i wasn't carrying.

i had my t/c, passport and cash in the box. t/c were untouched. cash and 1000's and 500's were untouched. i never note 100's and lower so who knows.

Thanks to the OP for this info. My only comment is that there are so many storys about if you read the travel review sites. It seems to happen in fits and starts and there have also been some good threads here about problems in Pattaya. This has never happened to me yet as far as I know but I was US$100.00 missing one trip and searched everywhere for it. I am reasonably precise about these things and could only ever figure that it was someone taking just enough not to cause an investigation

Absolutely credible. This happens a lot, everywhere in Thailand and presumably lots of other places. But it's almost the opposite to what the OP claims happened. He actually lost his passport! - plus everything else. That is really unusual. Taking a few of the available bills leaves the plausible denial that "you must have counted them wrong". Taking it all - there's really no excuse possible. "He never put anything in the box in the first place" hardly has the same ring.

I'm with the doubters. It's certainly possible but as the Americans say "I'm from Missouri".
