I was just wondering if anyone could hazard a guess what percentage of TGs working in Pattaya come from the Isaan region? It must be pretty high, also what % of BKK girls are from Isaan?

TIA

Backdoor,

Isaan is an area in the north east of Thailand bordering on Laos in the east and Cambodia  in the south.

The area has its own cusine and from what my TGF tells me its own language or dialect.

It is also the poorest region fo the country hence why so many girls leave to work in the sex industry.

What I'm not sure of is if Issarn is an "official" region.  Does it follow a set of administrative boundaries or is it just a general expression like "midwest" in the U.S.?  anyone know?

Geography and Statistics are subjects which have always interested me and whilst in Pattaya during September for 3 weeks I made a point of noting the Home Province/Town of the Isaan girls I met and talked to. The total sample was 83.

This is the result of my survey:-

    %

Korat      21

Burriram      15

Khon Kaen  12

Surin      11

Udon Thani   8

Ubon Ratchathani   7

Chaiyaphum  7

Roi Et       4

Sakhon Nakhon  3

Nakhon Phanon 2

Nong Khai     2

Others     8

I was also interested to see if girls from the same place tended to stick together in Pattaya. This did seem to be the case particularly with the bar girls.

I wonder if there has been any other research on this subject.

Chonthaburi? You mean Chonburi perhaps?

???

As mentioned earlier , Issan/Esaarn is a large area in the North East , covering about a 3rd of Thailand's proximity.  You could draw a line directly above Korat and about 0 degrees across , you would get most of Isaan in that sector. It has it's own dialect but not a separate language , on the borders Khmer and Lao is spoken , but these days mainly amongst the older generations.

I love the place!

:)

I would imagine that Vox hit the "o" key instead of the "a" key and meant Chanthaburi.  I remember reading somewhere that the Issan region is the northeast and includes something like 19 provinces.

Try visiting it , it really is the heart of Thailand , cities worth seeing are Kohn Kaen , Udon , Ubon, Korat, Kalasin, Roi Et, Surin and many more.

Agree with an earlier poster , Korat has a larger representation than any other city , the bar scene in Isaan is different to farang orientated places but you can have  a great laugh, with many fine ladies on tap.
