Visa runs: what is the easiest way to take care of this over the next 5 months?

Recommended Posts

Gentlemen,

What is the easiest way to stay in Thailand and do the periodic visa run? I am thinking about a flight to Phnom Pehn to get a 2 month visa that can be extended 1 month in Thailand, but that is a bus ride up to the airport, the flight, 3 business days to wait for the visa in PP, flight back, bus ride back down to Payyaya. Seems like too much trouble. They still have bus visa runs to the border, but that is only 15 days visa you get...who does that? What is the bus bus visa run company and also a good price? What is the easiest and most cost effective way to stay 5 months (without getting a visa where you have to prove income)?

Try either firstclassvisarun.com or fivestarvisarun.com, all-inclusive to Vientiane,Laos for a double entry tourist visa, you don't have to wait in line and they do all the paperwork.

Get a multiple tourist visa before you travel.

Get yourself a Non-immigrant 'O' visa.

A non-immigrant O is good for 12 months.

You will need to do a visa run every 90 days. Many places around Pattaya can arrange it.

A visa run usually costs about 2400 baht and includes, a breakfast, taxi, visa costs and a meal on return.

About a week prior to the expiration of your 12 months do your final visa run and get another 90 days so your 12 month stay becomes 15 months.

Multiple Entry of course.

Not sure these can be had in adjacent countries. (Sounds like OP is in LOS already)

I believe multiple entry tourist visas are still available in Laos and maybe PP, that would cover the 5 months. Anyway, easiest to visit The Sportsman (Soi 13, Five Star), or The Queen Vic (1st Class)(website) talk to the staff there and get the options.

Hi,

My friend was talking to a guy that had just done a visa run to V.T. last week. He said the Thai Enbassey there have started to issue 12 months multiple "O" visas. He showed my friend his passport and it was correct. You still have to leave LOS every 90 days. Just across the border and back. My mate has still got 3 months to do on his visa, so he said he will try this. Worth checking up on, with Thai Imm.. There the ones that should know. I have always found them very helpful.

Cheers Doug.

For what reason? Marriage? Retirement? Visiting family? Visiting as a pensioner? :clueless

Thaivisa has recent positive reports from 3 people who have used this guy in Phnom Penh. He charges US$18 + visa fees. At least one report of same day service.

Hi Cheshire Tom,

For the record, Type 'O' can have another category, simply called 'Other'.

When I approached the Thai consulate in Melbourne last year for a 3 month holiday and got tangled up with discussions of visa runs etc, he said just use Type 'O' and use the 'Other' category on their form...which I did. My reason on the visa was long service leave.

Without upsetting the Thai experts, could it be a matter of (1) all english visa forms are interpretations of thai language, so it can be interpreted differently, and , more importantly, (2) offices in different locations in Asia and the rest of the world interpret visa rules differently (as reflected on their version of the form) on purpose, to suit their requirements.

Non-Immigrant Type O is the Category of Visa - O stands for Other, as opposed to B (Business), ED (Education), M (Media), R (Religous) etc etc. There are a whole host of qualifying criteria which change from time to time.

Well,

Attached is the form I used. Make of it what you will. Apparently, there are a bunch of visa types where you can have 'Other'...

This form looks nothing like the current form used by the Sydney consulate which is more like the arrangement CT is talking about.

My point is still the same (as I came to realise last year), visas can and are set up differently according to that visa office needs.

The Thai consulates in the UK state unless you are married to a Thai you have to have an income of at least £800 a month to get an O visa. Hull asked me to send or marriage cert and translation and a copy of her Thai ID card before mine was issued and I have had 2 others through them as well.

Not exactly the case.

I have just received an O visa from Hull.

The conditions i had to fulfill were that i am retired and in receipt of a pension. That pension is a modest private pension, well below £800 per month.Had to send a bank statement as proof. Also age isnt critical,im not 65 yet

The easiest visa you can get for a 5 month stay is the 180 day double entry visa. You will have to make a visa run to Laos. There are many places that will do everything for you, help with the paperwork, arrange transportation, a room for the night and such. I used the sportsman pub on soi 13. With the 180 day double entry visa, you can stay 90 days, then go to Jomtien for a 30 day extention giving you 120 days in country. You then have to leave the country and return. You can take a Cambodia visa run, or nicer, take the train to Malaysia. You then have 90 more days. That would be your 5 months, you can also get one more 30 day extension from Jomtien giving you 6 months. The visa places will charge you about 14,000 for the 180 day double entry visa, all inclusive, transportation, some food, and a room for the night in Vientiane. Your passport will be in the Thai embassy in the morning along with your application, and picked up the next morning.

I did a TR of sorts here http://www.pattayatalk.com/forums/topic/56319-double-entry-tourist-visa-required-fr-laoscambodia/page__p__914993#entry914993
