aj,

In a moment of quiet reflection one could wonder what wonderous and odourous objects floated to the surface as the second road drains filled and overflowed.

When it rains things flood, the drainage system is just very poor in most of Thailand. It is the rainy season now. No big deal it rains the water goes up and things flood, it stops raining and the goes down again. It is just part of life in Pattaya.

According to the report there was 189.4mm (about 8 inches) of rain in a few hours.

As far as I can see, that seems to equate to the average rainfall for the whole of June and July combined. I doubt whether any drainage system anywhere could have coped with that amount of rain in such a short period.

Last time I was in Pattaya, (November last year) I was caught in a thunderstorm - just had to take shelter in a nearby beerbar  ;D ;D and when I walked back to my hotel, there were places where the water was above my ankles. It did, however, subside quite quickly though.
