Dominance of Scottish managers

Recommended Posts

I recall an FA Cup final between Arsenal and Liverpool with only 2 Englishmen fielded. The rest were Scots,Irish,Welsh (I think)...and Australian.

Why so many Scot's Managers? Why so few players? What's going on?

I know Pullis is welsh and GOD too lol.I actualy thought when u said dominance,u were talking about winning things, sorry !!!!!!!!

Agree, there are 7 managers who are scottish, there are 20 teams in the premiership so hardly dominance, thats why i thought u were talking about winning things.

Simple..Jocks are know it all gits that love telling people what to do ...

And justifiably so! whistling.gif

Actually, the Scottish link is a bit of a broad brush; the seven current managers were all born within 13 miles of each other. If Peterborough and/or Cardiff get promoted Ferguson Jnr and Mackay could be added to the list.

Out of the last 26 seasons, 18 English titles have been won by Scottish managers from the same small area. I'd call that dominance. Has ANY English manager ever won the Premier League? clueless.gif

Maybe the thread should be asking why English managers are so crap. unsure.gif

I can remember Liverpool fielding a starting 11 in an FA Cup Final with no Englishmen, but it was v Everton who had a load of English players.

English clubs owe a debt to the Scots..............But now it's only the managers that are to the fore. If I was Scottish I would be worried about how Scottish players are being developed.

Why? The seven managers were all crap players in their day. Logically, that means the number of crap Scottish players now doing the rounds should ensure that we'll dominate coaching positions in the Premier League for the foreseeable future. thumbup.gif Always look on the bright side ...... whistling.gif

Maybe due to so many cheap foreign players being in the game now, and they were always more skillfull anyway. Scotland hasn't the weather for outdoor sports and is wealthy enough that kids have other stuff to do than play football. Surely the same talent is there, but it isn't getting develpoed.

And Bratpack was somewhat right to say that the coaching set up stinks. I hear people say on the radio that they coach the talent out of players.

Thanks for taking it as it was meant...Toooo serious on this board now.. :banghead

It doesn't bloody matter where somebdy is from..Today Spurs whooped Liverpool..It doesn't mean that English Managers are better than Scottish Managers..Adebayor was man of the match..Doesn't make Black players better than non black players.....I am sure somebody on here will search for statistics over 10, 20,30 years to prove their point...and for sure I write bollocks most of the time but I write things off the top of my head..isn't that what banter is about..?

BTW The real stars of the match were the Liverpool supporters..chanting the name of their Scottish Manager... :thumbup

I am sure some peolple on this board would be right boring bastards in a pub quoting statistics whilst everybody else is talking bollocks and enjoying themselves.. :chogdee

Scotland has had some of the world's best players. There was always at least 3/5 Scotish players I wished, prayed, were English...Always a couple of Irish and a couple of Welsh too. Nowadays Aaron Ramsey,Garath Bale...Given maybe..... and Fletcher............and...........er.........?

It's not right!!!!

Basically I'm stuck with Man U in Europe....They still have a large number of home (British) players that I can get behind and in some crazy patriotic way feel proud of.

To the poster who said it don't matter.....I know maybe the majority feel that way, and good for him and for them..................I know I have to evolve.....But I can't. 'I'm an old dog and this is a very new trick.' (Larson).

It's not right!!

Managers should be forced to bring on home/British talent.............It's there to find. They are just forced to 'BUY" quick results because boards and fans are, in that order, respectively scared and impatient.

Everton's Sweaty Gaffer, was not too happy when Brentford beat them on Penalties last September.

Had a Scot- Charlie Macdonald not missed a penalty in the first half, that would have given us a straight win. Charlie left us last month, as he and the new German Gaffer didn't see eye to eye. He scored in his first 3 games for MK Dons - one against us ! He didn't celebrate the goal. He was a legend here at Griffin park.

Hi,

The Scottish must have some qualities which make them good football managers. Shankley, Stein, Busby etc.. all great managers. I think the mistake chairmen make today is expecting great players like Robson, Adams, Keane etc. to become good managers. It's usually the lesser players or even non players like Mourinho who make it. They are pushing for the "Rooney rule" in England to try promote black managers now. I think people like Ince and Barnes have put back the case for black managers a generation. Chris Hughton and Powell may redress the balance. I'm sure there are some great black managers out there but they never get a chance. Some hopeless Scots, like Souness, get a chance because they are Scottish.
