Exactly. Surely curiosity would get the better of you? I know the Thais are secretive about their language, but please, counting to ten? Asking for a drink? The bill? Asking someone their name? Disrespectful and arrogant not to know the basics in my opinion. I'd learnt that sort of stuff by then end of my first trip.

 

I thought the only phrases you needed to know were

 

A large beer and my friend will pay ---

Where is the bathroom ---

Is your daughter 18 ---

I thought I was making great strides when I didn't have to count through the Thai numbers with my fingers to get to the one I wanted. :thumbup

I seemed to stop learning at that milestone.
