I mean come on it would of been quicker to google then it would of been to start this thread...

No. The results that you see on google tapped in LOS, are not the same as the results on google tapped in in the UK. Locally orientated na?

I have always been amazed at the number of people buying these super lightweight very high priced bicycles. They save a couple of kilos with the alloy frames. It would be better for your health to simply lose a couple of kilos of body weight.

Bicycles have a chain with front and rear sprockets. How can there be any difference in efficiency?

For the casual rider I agree, but if your rides are typically in the 50km + range on a regular basis then purchasing a lightweight, high quality bike makes good sense. The lower weight equates to less kg pushed around over a ride, and the higher quality components means more energy going into turning of the wheels vs overcoming friction of the gearing and bearings.

Anyone know if L A Bikes is still there? The gf couldn't find it, but that's not saying much 555

Still there. Here's a link to Streetview of their location (Theprasit near Soi 6). Okay shop if you're looking for an inexpensive bike. If you're looking for a better quality bike I would recommend SV Bikes also on Theprasit, corner of Soi 8)

My TGF bought one of those cheap Chinese ones, I am sure it is nearly as heavy as my motorcycle. And let me tell you it is hard work to ride that thing around. My old lightweight bike seemed to require little effort. But then I was 30+lbs lighter too!
