I was  directed to the  RG  from this board  back in  October and I just stayed there for 9 days and was  quite happy  with it.  the main thing for me when I travel is discretion and this place  could give a good damn about what you are doing at all times; they leave you alone, don't ask for ID cards, and  are very friendly and  courteous  when you ask them something but leave you be when you don't.  the  room was  very nice and the service  was good, decent room service food until 11PM and the BBQ  out front was also  above average.  the pool was nice and I spend lots of time there when i was not in my room screwing.  the  proximity to the nightlife is  good and the rate of 1350 that i booked through here  was indeed fair for the type of place you are getting.

highly recommended;  I would give this place a  9 out of 10 rating and  thanks to all you guys  who recommended it  to me and to this website, for I never would have heard of it without  you all.  I think the owner is happy that you promote him up here and he has many customers from this board,  I am sure.

thanks again and happy holidays to all!

It's a nice place but a pain in the arse to get to and from the action. Miles away from every thing and is certainly not within walking distance.

I'm staying at the RG in March, and although I know it's a great place to stay, there seems to be some dissagreement between members on how far away from the action the RG is!

I'm not shy of the odd stroll, but:

Does a FIVE MINUTE walk mean that or what!!!?   [smiley=help.gif]

Cheers!

It is no secret that I think RG is the best, for all the reasons listed above...

The #1 is the no ID check thing...Listen, I hate the whole nature of anything that makes the encounter feel more like a business transaction, and the ID thing definitely does...I don't know what kind of saps are pulling some thieving old AIDS infested beach rd. troll in to their beds, but I personally do not need someone holding my hand when I bring a chick home for the night...I have NEVER NEVER NEVER had a problem...nor have I caused one...

I have thought about getting a second or even third room in town, but have not done so mainly due to the lack of reasonable to high quality rooms WITHOUT the F...ing ID check.

Yes. I feel STRONGLY on this issue!!!

oh yeah, RG RULZ!!!  THE BEST !!!  SEE YOU in MARCH!!!

Plenty of space in the rooms, but the beds are too short IMO. In a moderate climate nice walking distance from the action but not in Thailand. Lack of facilities in the immeadiate vicinity. I would not recommend it, but I would concede I am in a minority. ;)

I like the RG and stayed there again last month. It's certainly not "miles" from the action though it is a bit too far to walk to the Walking Street area when the humidity is sky high (like, most of the time  ;D). However, it is no problem to get a baht bus to wherever you want to go - though you may have a problem trying to cross the road - even at 8.00 in the evening! ::)

sensei,

When you get ripped off it's kind of hard for the police to find a girl with black hair, black eyes about 5' 1" 98 lbs. O she speaks thai and she from Korat.

Ya, ya only saps get nailed.

One other thing, it's a business transaction.

18 days until I'm pulling Beach Rd trolls. ;D

Ste i stayed there in september,my honest opinion is it a fantantastic place to stay,if its your first time you will love it, it,s not a 5 min stroll 15-20 maybe,it is a bit too far away for my liking you will find out what you like what suits you best when you get there,i prefer staying in the middle last bar and back to the hotel, but you dont get that at the residence bcoz there aint no bar nearby,i think if you asked all the people who say its great and wasnt booking through the flb cheaper option would they still think it was good im pretty sure what the answer would be,anyway dont worry about it go for it bcoz i would recomend it to anyone and i will probably stay there again just split it with somewhere else nearer

have a good one..

I stayed there twice last April. OK I had my family with me so I was not fussed if it was not right in the middle of the action. But for friendly staff, good food and value for money I could not fault it, and the walk to the Sth end of Pattaya was only about 15 minutes, no big deal.

Five minutes may be if trying out for the Athens Olympic games. I stopped in Soi 13 and travelled between there and Jomtein regularly with  a t/g on a motor bike trying out sea food restaurants so I know how far it is.

yes, the   distance is a bit far, lets all be serious  about that.   for me it's no problems because  I rent a  'cycle wherever I go and   crazy town is no  exception.  on the nights  when I wanted to get hammered, i left the honda dream parked and jumped on a baht bus; 10 baht and 5 minutes later I was at the  small soi that leads to walking street and was happy as a pig in shit, or a horny guy in pattaya. bring a  business card from the front desk at all times in your pocket, because at 2 or 3 am  when you are heading back you  give that to a  moto-taxi guy and  you are home in no time, for 20 or 30 baht.

yes, there are places closer to the action. yes, there are places closer to the beach.  yes, there are better rooms and i personally like the pattaya centre better; their 1400B  rooms are larger and more classy.   however,  I so much agree with the guy above who doesn't like to have his hand held and I like discretion and a staff that is  not nosy and  checking everything that I do.  RG staff did not even  talk to me once unless I asked them a question first and I probably had 15 girls in my room in 9 days.  they are discreet and friendly and also look the other way when you bring back your date.  in my 7 years of Thai travelling [and now living there half-time]  I have never been ripped off by a lass and   I don't plan on it now; I would just assume that they  don't take ID cards and that MY business remains just that.  at RG  you can be anonymous; if that is important to you, stay there.

again, better places to be sure and better located hotels,  but I would still recommend this place and for 1350b  it is a very good deal.

on the subject of id check's, some people hate them, some people like them and all you guys who have 20/30 trips never a problem, well done, but you only have to be unlucky once.

and regardless of whatever some people say on this forum bad shit DOES happen.

like a lot of things, its all down to personal choice, but security is important to a lot of people.

Personally I don't see the big deal about ID's being taken at the front desk as long as the front desk isn't making an issue of it.  Most of the time when I'm returning with a TG she is getting her ID out of her purse as we walk up to get the key.  I pick up my key, she hands over ID and off to room.  In the morning she does have to sign the book to retrieve ID.  If she's staying more than 1 day then the process is even smoother.  Also when staying more than 1 day if her ID is on file she can come and go without you having to be with her or having her wait to get you on the line.

BIG D  come on, you are a veteran now...think hard about any girl you had a problem with, and tell me that she gave you absolutely no sign that she might be trouble...Remember that I do not drink and do not have to worry about my judgement being a little cloudy.  Remember that I teach self defense and personal security for a living and I really do not fear any 90 lb TG or her potential plan to steal 1000 baht... Remember too that if any shit does happen, it is my chance to take, and the hotel should leave it to me to sort it out...I for one am willing to risk taking responsibility for my own actions...Just a friendly comment, hope to see you next trip.  Peace.

sensei,

As a guy who teaches personal security why would you want to put temptation in front of a stranger? When she leaves her ID she knows that the police can tag her.

The hotel runs security checks not for you but to save them the hassle of dealing with the police and with guys who want to take care of it themselfes.

I'm part owner of a new hotel opening soon in Pattaya. Hotel policy will be that all girls ID will be registered with security and when she leaves, security will call the room to make sure everything is OK. When the girl shows up without the registered guest in tow she doesn't go to the room untill we get the OK. Girls will not be allowed to roam around the hotel by themselves.

My job is to provide a reasonabley safe and secure location for the average guy to have fun. I realize you can look after yourself but I have to look out for everyone else. Lets get together for a beer when your in Pattaya. I'll tell you about my personal security lapse that damm near got my ass kicked by a baht bus driver...

I'm Pro-ID Check, just for my safety concerns....You can be a rookie or a veteran and still get drugged and stolen from.. For my hotel to have concerns is just another good reason to stay there...

The RG is a good place to stay, I like the bigger room, that does allow me/her some "privacy"..I usually get up early and go out on the balcony or watch TV.  She can sleep in, as I shut the door and keep the noise level down...That's hard to do in a one-room hotel...

I do like other places as well and I don't usually stay at the same location each visit...But Pete and Ib have gotten us a very nice deal at the RG and it is appreciated by many

ID checks aren't worth two bob, if a TG is devious enough to want to steal from you then who is say she hasn't already got a stolen ID card ? Or should she steal all she has to do is lie low until you've left the country and a decent thief/liar would already have ascertained when you're leaving and then there is nothing you can do as the Thai police won't bother when you're not there.

The best way to keep your valuables safe from harm is keep them locked away in a safe and never put temptation into anyones reach.

Roland makes a good point. I'm going to buy a cheap digital camera and take the BG picture when she registers. The next day erase all the pictures. Another way is to mount a security camera.

Wil this stop the hard core pro. I don't think so but it will stop the casual thief.

Hi,

As to the RG i think it is highly overated. The accomadation is great. The beds look big but are two beds put together I injured my knee and was buggered for 7 days from useful sex . I do not go on holiday to cook, kitchen in room, and when i ordered a breakfeast in the room 10% extra the meal was bloody awlful. Dumped on the table no salt pepper sauce etc. and no knifes forks etc. we were supposed to use our own and clean them after,  even my TG was disappoined with her meal. I moved to a hotel which cost less than 600B and was a lot better.
