Pattaya Beach today covered in rubbish

Recommended Posts

Had a stroll down Beach road today and noticed that a lot of junk has been washed up on the beach. It covered almost the whole stretch and backed up to the deck chairs. Tons of it.

I thought it may have been from Loy Krathong, but it was mostly plastic bottles, bits of wood, shoes, coconuts, and various bits of plastic.

The weekend fireworks festival probably generated a lot of trash, both on the beach, and in the water from the fireworks themselves.

I just come back from a walk along the beach... from Soi 6 ;)

There are maybe 2 groups of about 20 city cleaning workers, all dressed in orange, at removing all that trash and putting it in big containers; 2 big orange trucks, a bulldozer, and 3 or 4 smaller vehicles to bring these containers from the beach to the trucks. They were at the level of Mike Shopping and had cleaned the north part of the beach already. I bet the whole beach will be clean well when you will see it tomorrow morning. :)

Wonder how much was due to the flooding, flip flops etc.

Most of the stuff I saw the Thais using was biodegradable floating ornaments.

For the fireworks?

No the floating flower arrangements. There were hundreds even thousands of them. There were fireworks sure, but not lots imo.

Coincidentally I was out yesterday and saw a lot of groups of cleaners out and about, and even groups of school-kids out too picking up rubbish. I think the up-coming King's birthday is causing a spate of housekeeping.

Not lots of fireworks? Not lots of crowds at the beach 2 days before watching the fireworks? Hmm. Okay, maybe it's leftover from Loy Krathong. Probably a combination of the two this year.

The beach has had a lot of activity over the last week.
