Couple Of Places Have Deteriorated

Recommended Posts

I went to Lone Star Grill, Soi Lengkee on Monday and had the daily special, Sirlon steak at 199 baht. I believe that this restaurant is owned by the same team as the pretty decent Jolly Friar and the formerly good, now poor, Devonshire.

The meal I had resembled something that you would get at the Devonshire on a bad day; shoe leather steak, cold chips and onion rings that tasted of vegetable oil. The bill was 250 including coffee. I left no tip and made no representation to the staff. I will vote with my feet and wallet.

Breakfast this morning was at the Pig and Whistle. Now I did hear from a few different people that standards had dropped a little at the Pig, and I can confirm this to a degree. The small breakfast used to be spot on and at 129 came with Heinz beans a free cup of tea. The tea is now on top (total was 165), the beans are now defintely not Heinz and the the bacon was a little fatty too. Disappointed to be honest.

On a plus note The Golf Club is still very nice, I mean there is still an array of loud talking tits always, and I mean always, sitting out front so I usually go to the Metro and the girls take my order for me and the food is delivered the short distance.

Ive heard also that the the 18 Coins have a new chef and the food is much improved so will try it and report back

I have heard the Pig and Whistle is now Thai owned, the food has gone down hill as the Thais (as usual) cut costs and corners. They dont make their own sausages and bacon anymore and the ones they use now are shit. The bacon and sausages you could buy per kilo has shot up in price and is amongst the most expensive i have ever seen. The overall prices have risen on all food.

I had a breakfast at the Queen Vic on Soi 6 and it was really good, i can recommend it

WRT Lone Star. Consider yourself lucky not to have tried the Burgers. I am reliably informed by a co-eater that they were quite the most disgusting thing he has ever had in Pattaya ! (He used to be a fan; Bobs old burgers too.) On the plus side, I had the "baby bbq ribs" and enjoyed them immensely!

This is classic food 101 that I hammer into my clients.Don't drop the quality if you drop the price!!!!

If your food costs go up the raise your prices, don't wear it!

In a hotel you might be able to get away with an out of date TV but in the food game people prefer quality over rubbish.Price accordingly. Over price and you need to provide extras like service, surroundings etc, enough people will pay. BUT if you price a meal @ 10$ an deliver a meal worth $6.50- get ready to shut the doors because you will stay open just as long as your capital lasts.

Its not brain surgery. get a good chef and provide value.

Wow,, the end of a 'legend'.... I have had quite a few of those greasy breakfasts watching 'Only Fools and Horses'...a hangover clouding my judgement, served up by the most sour faced waitress in town. Did one of them kill the other at last! :D

That's a bugger about the pig and whistle as I was going to grab some snags and bring back to Indo with me

What is Rose Ogrady like nowadays ? had a pie there once and put me in bed for 3 days

Rosy's is not too great I am sorry to say. Okay for your bog standard pub grub, pie and chips, etc, but very disappointed last time I had roast dinner there.

When are you in town? There is a great cafe on the darkside that sells bacon, sausages and pork pies etc and it is fickin brilliant. Bacon and Sausage by the kilo 240 baht. The name is Chesters, cross over the rail line coming up Nern Plub Wan and turn right at the first 7/11, its inside the small estate about 100 yards on the right

Is that the Pie Shop place that used to be owned by a Scotsman and an Italian? Although it sounds further off Nerm Plab Wan than I recall.

I've honestly enjoyed those early morning breakfasts at Crazy Dave's and that sullen waitress has been there for years. I also like Only Fools and Horses but as entertainment goes it does not hold a candle to the renowned late night/early morning cabaret show put on by Dave and his Thai wife Linda when they return to the premises worse the wear for drink and the fireworks start. One of the best free floor shows to be found in South East Asia!

This place has never been owned by a Scotsman and Italian. Its always been owned by a Brit, its not a pie shop, its just a cafe

I eventually got there this morning and had the full English. The Golf Club was "tit free" the other morning so I had what they call The Wentworth which is also the full English.

Both spot on and I will return to both places and am happy to recommend.

I have liked this place for some time. Sitting at the bar by myself chatting to other customers had been a good experience but I took my UK family there a few years back and the service and food was bloody awfull and I have not been back since...

Maybe it is time to give it another chance..

You should do. I stayed there for about 6 weeks last year and ate there pretty much every day, sometimes twice a day. Service is spot on. Food is usually on the table 15 mins after you place your order. Just enough time for a beer and a smoke outside while I waited.
