What was the url of the forum? Is there only one Phuket forum?

The only Phuket forum I know about is Phuket-info.com. I just tried it, but it wouldn't load.

I heard the owner and admin died. It's on the forum somewhere here.

The name of the owner of phuket.info was Nick, he died in a motor accident. They are now determining who is the legal owner of the forum. Sad to see this happening.

He owned also the Mai Tha bar in Phuket in soi Eric. The times I was in his bar it was always relaxed. A big loss for Phuket.

Wow. That's too bad to hear. I haven't been checking the Phuket forum lately, but one of the first bars I ever went to in Phuket was the Mai Thai bar. I guess that was in 2000, and Nicke hadn't been there that long at the time. Some time later ran across the forum and have followed it semi-regularly ever since. Nicke had a wife and two kids, I believe. He was a nice guy. From Norway originally, I think. Maybe Sweden.

I had no idea HOW THESE THINGS WORK, STRANGE JUST OWNED BY A SINGLE PERSON, BUT WHAT DO i KNOW.

Sorry about the capitals, you can tell I am not a touch typist.

You think forums are owned by multiple partners? Aside from addicts, there really isn't one in this town, and it has many.

Like others here my introduction to Phuket was the Mai Tai bar and it was a great place to chill and meet people. Whilst it was a simple beer bar amongst a lot of others it served its purpose well.I hope for the sake of people going to Phuket for the first time that something similar opens.

There are beer bars all over Phuket. The Mai Thai bar was different, in that Nicke, the owner, had the good sense to start a web site to promote his bar. The web site had thousands of members, and most would likely stop by to have a drink when in Phuket. I guess it worked well, as his bar was open 12-13 years or so.

Definitely from Sweden. He was a good guy, but many of the other major posters on that forum were ^ssholes beyond belief.

Assholes "beyond belief"? I guess some of them weren't too nice sometimes. I never got upset by any of them, though. I just ignored them. Anyway, it's sad to hear about Nicke. The last person I would guess to be killed in an accident. The last I heard from him he was using a driver to and from work, just because of the crazy traffic.

I'm just about to the point where I know more dead people than alive people in Phuket, all from motorbike accidents.

could'nt agree more. :thumbup :thumbup :thumbup

major posters there were dickheads of the first order, many were racist as well.A number of them had moderator roles which they abused. The "elites" as they were referred to by many pissed off posters there had carte blanche to run riot over the forum and few regular posters outside this group.newbies were the target much of the time.

Nicke was the exception,he seemed to be a good guy, although the owner of the board, the other "mods" seemed to be running it.

Mind you, there some good info on there.

there was a LOT of good info there, that was more the pity it was run over by deadshits.

True.

They must be getting around like fish out of water, not being able to bully newbies etc.

Phuket-info was the first Thai forum I joined. Shared a few drinks with Nicke in the Mai -Tai bar, on my first trip in 2006. He was a good guy.

Hope he made provisions for Ead and the two kids.

This website was my introduction to LOS and Phuket was my first trip 5 years ago.

Pattaya is more my scene and haven't been back. Forum was friendly to me and

Nicke was a genuine and generous host and his locals were same. Sad news he will be missed

by the phuket community.

I have read on various forums (taken with salt) that the business was sold prior to his passing and that ownership

was to change hands in May/June.

There was server problems with the site and bm livinlos was chasing it up but little has happened?

Based on this if the new owners recognise the importance of the forum to the business it should live on.

If not oblivion...

They should be able to fix a server problem. I hadn't heard about the business being sold, but maybe that's true. Ead recently opened noodle shop. Maybe they decided to go in some other direction.
