I will be visiting Pattaya for 1 week at the end of December.  Since it will be the peak tourist season, do I need to book a hotel now, or will it be possible to do that from Bangkok when I arrive?  I'd rather do it from Bangkok if possible to avoid internet bookings and telephone hassels.

Also, any recommendations for a nice place near the Walking Street for 20 - 30 US per night.

This is a great website!  Thanks for all the useful information.

It would be advisable to book your room as soon as possible if you have a specific hotel in mind. If you arent really worried then leave it untill you get there though you might have to run around a few hotels to get what you want.

I f you wait untill you get to bkk or pattaya  at that time of year you will probably be looking at about 100 us  to get a room.  pattaya is usally full up at that time on the less expensive hotels.  the hard rock always has room but they are 100 us and up which is why they have rooms. if you know that you will be there for sure i suggest you book as soon as possible or you will not find a hotel close to walking street for that week, at that price.if you have early flight  you may be able to find one by chance, but if you have the standard us flight that always seem to arrive at 24:00 then it will be a bit harder to get a taxi to take you around to find one. so i agree with crakpot book now or you may have to take what you can get. enjoy hank08 it will be fun no matter what [smiley=bonk.gif] [smiley=gulp.gif]

Thanks for the info boys.  One more question....

I have read the reviews and I am thinking about one of the hotels near walking street.  Do you guys have any recomendations?  If I call one of these places, do I have to give a credit card number?  Is this safe?  I read about possible problems with the Sunshine hotel.

Thanks again!

Check out Penthouse hotel a little distance away from walking street a couple of blocks but you can get a basic room for around 30 US or less. I've stayed there twice and may stay there again this December . Right in the middle of the gogo street Pattayaland . Not to evertones taste but should be experienced at least once .

I requested a room at the Penthouse and they replied that they had vacancies but I would have to pay a deposit for 2 days. I don't mind that but they insist that I print the form and FAX it ::). I don't have a printer at home so I'll have to discretely print it at work and fax it from there. What a pain, I wish they had another system for paying the deposit. :-X

Make a booking at http://www.mamaisonhotel.com/AEindex.htm

It's a decent farang family owned place close to Walking Street. Good food too.

Frankly, I think it's bullshit for them to ask that of customers. Just don't do it. I only have stayed there twice, but have done so only for the athmosphere. I have both times just done a walk up request for a room, and they have never been full. Granted, I wasn't going in high season. But if you're really concerned, just e-mail the owner your credit card number. Make you have personal contact with him via email, not the Thai staff.

BTW, he has a 16 yo daughter there who is half Asian, half farang. You will sometimes see her dancing the poles in the Cats go-go. Don't even think about it. Just wait 2 years.

When I stayed at the Penthouse in May I did a walk up. I did try to fax to them several times, but they never received them. When I got there they had several rooms to choose from. I did have to change rooms after the first night.

That's what I read on their website. It doesn't make it easy for the first timers though.

I see you're going to be there roughly the same time as me, see you at the FLB.  [smiley=cheers.gif]

I'll make sure I stay well away from her! Thanks for the heads-up!

BangkokStreetWhore and bigballs,

I will try to fax it once, if the form doesn't go through the first time, then I'll just try a walk-up. ::) Thanks.

I got the same the fax bullshit from the Penthouse plus I'd have to pay half the bill upfront.  But if u want the Penthouse on the busiest week of the year that's the drill.

Koenig (a real bargian)and Sabai Lodge (need baht bus to get u to Walking Street) may have some rooms available, no credit card required, but these will be filled up quickly.

Hank08,

I emailed the Ma Masion and they were full that week. Sandy Spring only had a suite available for 2800 baht. I did book a room at the VC hotel

http://www.thaiwaysmagazine.com/pattaya_ho...l/vc_hotel.html

They had a junior room for 850 baht with the new years eve dinner for 500 baht per person.

Good luck and do not wait too long!

Jim

I just made a reservation at the Penthouse.  (took Wolfe's advice about everyone needing to experience this at least once!)

About the issue of printing and faxing the reservation:  I filled out the form on line and just sent it.  It seems that this is all that is necessary.  I'll post if/when I get a confirmation.

Again, thanks to all for the information!

Hank

Hank

That's what I tried as well. I got a long reply with all the hotels details and a note stating that I would need to sign the form as they require 2 days deposit.

It was a pain as I had to print it, sign it and fax it from work. ::) At least it went through the first time.

Come to think of it, they haven't replied, I think I may have to phone them and ask them for confirmation.

Good luck Hank!
