I agree CTom that you made a fair comment which you reproduced in your post.

But what about comments such as the above? "Dodgy types" I can understand and would like to avoid. But what about "dubious national background"? What is that? Are some national backgrounds less "dubious" than others? I have been led to believe that there are good and bad people in all nationalities, and I think most of us believe that.

Comments such as those serve no purpose - they simply detract from whatever point the writer is trying to make.

I would have believed what the writer was saying if that had not been included. Now? I simply disregard everything that is said in the post.

Political Correctness has its place - and its limitations. Think Nigerians. In the Internet scam realm, they're front runners. In Thailand, think pimping out their own nationals.

The comments weren't made by me, neither were they contained in the earlier thread that I referred to. You need to address your concerns to the author.

I was referring to certain types who travel on false passports, hence their national backgrounds are dubious. I believe most BMs will have understood what I meant.

I have researched dozens of places and I will keep looking but the moral of the story is clear. You need to bite the bullet and do the leg work while you are in Pattaya and not just rely on the Internet.

I do believe that I will have to soften my insistence on a swimming pool and accept that it might be better to pay 100 baht for the days that I swim. This in itself will open up the search parameters.

This year alone I will have spent well over 100,000 baht on accommodation and that seems a bargain for a hotel (looking at the accommodation web sites) but if I want to keep coming to Pattaya at least 3 times a year I need to keep the search going. I do still believe that this is where this forum is very useful and worth the occasional irritation. I still look forward to suggestions.

Teelack,

Have you ever stayed in a Soi Buakow "Guesthouse?"

Just wondering as if to economize is your goal, some rooms can be contracted for

There are also many AC equipped apartments in this area that rent for under

As you so noted above with many important things in life, your footsteps will be required to make the judgement of suitability and to have the most recent update of availability as all of the above are not advertised on the internet nor do they have websites (like many of the jobs I have had :).

P.S. I'd be glad to discuss with you in-person during an FLB bar-crawl or meet you in the area to show you.

Thanks and good to hear from you. Just over seven weeks and I will get back onto those bar crawls. I will look up the guesthouse that you mention.

Just wondering if anyone had any ideas on a condo/apartment reasonably central to Pattaya (not Jomptien or Naklua).

My hotel is quite reasonable but for just less than a month straddling October / November it will cost me about 35000 baht. I am trying to do three trips a year and this is getting expensive.

I am looking in the 20000 baht range and only other stipulation is that it must have pool or easy access to one. Any thoughts?

Hi Teelack, didn't your compatriate "Cicero" promise to post a TR including his usual in depth accomodation review, have I missed it?
