Munich city centre at night is a beautiful sight, and especially as it was 28oC this night that I was wandering around. The beer and food went down well that night.

Thanks for the great photos, as they bring back a lot of memories. I was baptized in that cathedral (Frauenkirche)and I lived only a short distance away in the Thalkirchner Straße with my long departed Mum. That was a very long time ago.

Agreed. I love the Altstadt areas found in most major German cities - Freiburg is my particular favourite.

Shame most of the Altstadt areas were only (re)built 60-odd years ago - perhaps why they look so fresh. Enjoyed my visit to Munich for Starkbierfest in March 2012 - birthday treat! Nice summery pics.

I lived in Dusseldorf for several years and, as far as I could understand, the firebombing destroyed most of the roofs but left the walls intact - hence so many different roof styles atop almost identical buildings.

I remember Freiburg particularly well because the local Ronnie Mac's wasn't allowed to display the golden arches outside its restaurant - it would lower the tone of the place apparently. :thumbup

Precisely and damn right too. They are pretty flexible nowadays now they've gone "green" in Europe (except the UK?) .http://businessnerds.wordpress.com/2011/05/29/mcdonald%E2%80%99s-going-green-%E2%80%93-i%E2%80%99m-lovin%E2%80%99-it/ No too-high M tower in Cap d'Agde either..

Back to Munich - I did all the city centre breweries/Bierhallen in two days and the Starkbier was at 7.5 per cent - minimum a litre stein - wehey - wobble!, Unimator, Maximator, Triumphator, Delikator, Salvator, etc etc There wasn't a Terminator strangely....

http://www.destination-munich.com/munich-strong-beer-festival.html names list half way down... beautiful weather - just lucky there.

I lived in Germany for three years...Loved the place. They also had a great monger street in almost every city.

Most cities yes, but just not in Munich though!
