Apart from Pattaya, where would you choose to live ...

Recommended Posts

Udon Thani.

Decent bars and easy border runs.

Pattaya, large efficient immigration office so no need for border runs!

And a few MPs in the next street to while away a wait!

Bars..... no comparison.

(so why 'apart from Pattaya'?)

Here you go NKPed:-

I would not live in Pattaya now, stayed there in the early eighties, doesn't hold much attraction for me nowadays, only visit occasionally to see friends and old neighbours. Stay one to two days max n

You're welcome! I'll also let you know when you become good at it.

So does Udon Thani and most other large provincial towns. Lots of guys prefer to/are compelled to stay in LOS on the back of a multi-entry visa rather than an extension of stay. That's one reason why you have all those border run companies in Pattaya to choose from.

(so why 'apart from Pattaya'?)

Up to you. As per the OP, "Apart from Pattaya (if for whatever reason it wasn't an option)" :thumbup

Retirement is a fair way away for me but at the moment I favour Hua Hin or Korat but having said that next year on holidays intend to check out Chang Mai.

Ideally I want a hobby when retired otherwise I would drink myself to death and even if there is a large river near by where I can launch my boat (not a massive boat just something comfty to go fishing or a cruise up/down river) in then I would be happy. Also some farng things to do as well is a benefit.

Apart from Pattaya (if for whatever reason it wasn't an option), where would you choose to live in Thailand, and why? What would be your priorities? Accommodation? Girls? Medical? Beaches? Transport? Proximity to borders? Food? Farangs?

I think it would be somewhere down south in your neck of the woods. Penang has an appeal to me for it's history and cultural mix. Indonesian, Indian, Malaysian, Chinese, British, Portuguese, Dutch, Thai, Arabic influences (Did I forget anybody?).

I know it's not Thailand but damn close. Maybe Hat Yai or Langkawi would better suit me?

I have never been to the region but I will go there one day for a look see. Okay, I've been to Koh Samui but flying in from U-Tapao, you just don't get the sense of anything from the mainland.

I do enjoy your reports from down south, wish there were a lot more of them.

Would be very interested to look at south Thailand, the only problem is it,s a bit far from my partner,s mum and 2 brothers. If i chose a place that i have been to,and not too far from Cambodia border, i would choose Udon Tani, but my favourite is Hua Hin.

One of the big pluses of Pattaya is friends and not far from aiport.

I live in the boonies of Loei province. We are at 333 meters above sea level so no pain in the ass floods here. It's a scenic area. I have many toys here including a small four wheel drive tractor and implements. I have a well equipped work shop and a couple of fishing ponds. I rarely get bored and have plenty to do IF I feel like doing anything.

I like to take a little holiday and stay in my Jomtien condo but Jomtien is getting too congested. No way could I live in Pattaya. WAY too much traffic and congestion. The condo is easy living with nearly everything you would need within walking distance. I just missed having a dog and a workshop.

Around Chiang Mai is beautiful but I hate the city. It's like Bangkok with no Sky Train. The city center is crazy.

Why do you need to be near the Cambodian border?

Which is nearer to Hua Hin by the way!

Burma border not far from Hua Hin.

Apparently we were just supposed to know that when he said Cambodia, he really meant Buriram.

Actually Hua Hin is closer to Cambodia than Udon Thani.
