Sunday Buffet at Dicey Reilly's- Updated Feb. 19, 2017

Recommended Posts

EP,

Excellent pics! I concur with your review.

I've had their Sunday buffet a few times and also the weekly specials on other days of the week. Nice, clean, AC environment along with many televisions to watch sporting events. Friendly service staff that don't bother you unnecessarily. Not for bargain hunters, but good value.

I've been by that place many times, but I always got the impression there weren't many people inside. And maybe that's the case during the day? And at night, I can think of more fun venues.

It's been over a year since I did the first review of Dicey Reilly's Sunday carvery, so time for an update I've had the carvery a half-dozen times in the past 14 months and the quality of thee food is as good as ever. It's not the cheapest, but still good value for money in terms of the quantity and quality of the food.

The menu has been remarkably consistence as well, with very little change in the carvery meats or sides. The layout of the buffet tables is a bit different, but the most note-worthy change has been in the price. It now costs 399 baht , up from 350 baht in April, 2014.

Dicey's has a a spacious dining area, plenty of TVs tuned to sports events and a good air conditioning system. `It's a pleasant place to have a meal, but the food is the really important factor and DR doesn't fall short in that respect.

Turkey, roast beef and roast pork are the carvery's anchors. They are all high quality and cooked properly. They come with a slew of condiments: horseradish sauce, several kinds of mustard, apple sauce and cranberry sauce.

The turkey wasn't dry; the beef had that the right pink color and the pork cooked through but juicy. The meat is sliced to order.

The Yorkshire pudding is among the best I've had in Pattaya. It was light and crisp, but not overcooked. The gravy packed a lot of flavor.

IMG_6085.jpg

There were seven warm side dishes. The Brussels sprouts with peas, carrots, corn, onion and bits of bacon were delicious.

IMG_6086.jpg

The cauliflower with cheese sauce and roast potatoes are also good.

IMG_6081.jpg

I could have made a separate meal of the cottage pie and pasta. Plenty of flavor in both.

And the second (I asked for dark turkey meat and got a whole leg carved up!):

More photos and comments to come.

I thought circa 400 baht was about the going rate for these types of buffet nowadays. Mind, most of the others have Lamb, which bumps the overheads right up.

The carvery also includes a salad bar ...

IMG_6078.jpg

which I didn't sample because there was so much other stuff to eat. It it looked very fresh and the staff kept the bowls and trays well-filled.

IMG_6080.jpg

One nice touch was a wooden salad bowl in case a customer wanted to mix and dress his or her own Caesar Salad.

There's also a dessert table with assorted cakes and fruits. I did feel a bit sorry for the singer, as no one seemed to pay him much attention.

The bread pudding is fantastic and comes with custard or simple syrup sauce.

In terms of the quality and variety of the food, Dicey Reilly's has one of the better Sunday carveries in town. The staff knows how to maintain a buffet, with everything kept warm and fresh and the serving dishes/trays always replenished. The fact that the buffet runs a limited time (12 noon to 4 pm) is also a factor in its favor, as almost all warm foods except stews and similar begin to lose flavor after standing a few hours.

On the downside, there isn't much food that will appeal to most TGs. Som tam on the salad table is the only real Thai dish. A lot of farang will also miss lamb. Drinks aren't cheap, with a bottle of SML running 149 baht. While the cost of the carvery is 399 baht, total cost with a drink and tip will run you between 550 and 600 baht. Well worth the money, but you can eat a Sunday lunch nearby for about half that.

The reason for visiting a carvery though is that you don't go intending to eat a roast dinner....you go to eat,or expecting to eat, at least two platefuls!

And regular lunches don't include unlimited desserts. So,its terrific value.

Will definitely sample the goods when next in that neighbourhood. Thanks for the update.

Time for an update on Dicey Reilly's Sunday carvery at 399 baht. Not much has changed since my first review a couple of years ago. It remains one of the better carveries in Pattaya and well worth the 399 baht.

2.jpg

It's a comfortable restaurant with good A/C. It's also rather quiet and seldom has a lot of customers, which makes it a good place both to have Sunday dinner and to watch sports events.

3.jpg

In terms of the food at the Sunday carvery, it's still as good as ever. In fact, I could simply repeat the comments I made in 2014 and 2015. The buffet offers roast beef, turkey and pork, as well as Yorkshire pudding, gravy and veggies (roast potatoes, mashed potatoes, roast pumpkin, cauliflower gratin, peas), plus cottage pie, fried chicken, soup, a salad bar, small cakes, fruit and my favorite, bread pudding with custard sauce. The food was fresh, prepared well and kept hot while the buffet bowls were topped up regularly. The only new addition to the buffet was a station where dessert crepes were prepared.

Drinks were a bit expensive, with a SML costing 149 baht and a bottle of water 80 baht. Like all buffets, it's best to get there as early as possible and Dicey Reilly's carvery runs between noon and 4 p.m. on Sundays.

The cauliflower gratin and peas proved popular ...

but the dishes were topped up quickly.

11.jpg

The cauliflower gratin was very good.

12.jpg

13.jpg

The salad bar, which has a large wooden bowl in which you can mix and dress your own salad.

14.jpg

My first plate, heavy on the turkey. I love turkey with cranberry sauce and there aren't too many places in Pattaya where you can get it on a regular basis.

My second plate:

I tried the pumpkin soup, also a favorite, but it wasn't that tasty.

18.jpg

The dessert station, with the afternoon's entertainers in the background.

Bottom line: I've been to Dicey Reilly's Sunday carvery many times and I'll keep going back, more for the roast turkey than anything else.

Probably a stupid question but, I love Roast potatoes and there didn't look like there were many on offer is it like carveries in the UK where you can have as many veggies as you like or is there a limit to"all you can eat".

There's no limit. Fill yer boots!

I usually manage two plates but have to decline much of the available selection as the choice is vast.

Here's the latest on Dicey O's...

Well, the price for the carvery has increased to 449.

The range is as was (excellent roast turkey, roast pork, and today a beef Wellington), then cottage pie, crinkle cut roast potatoes, sprouts, fish fingers and so many other offerings as before, plus salad bar,Eastern bits and pieces and delightful little cakes to die for.

But....there's lamb. Delicious braised lamb shanks piled high! Cooked to perfection... the meat falls off the bone as it should.

I indulged in my usual two plates worth, and got to say it was top drawer.

With a Pepsi Max the total was 529....but considering the turkey, beef and mountain of shanks I had it was a bargain.

Lamb in a carvery.....perfect!

I have lived in LOS 20 years+ and this place did the best Tomyam Goong I had ever had at the time of going....with gert big king prawns to suck the juice out of....I needed a towel to clean up afterwards!!

.....I heard it was a bit of a rugger bugger community and went with my daughter to try and get her interested in playing.....but she insisted "I don't want a nose like yours daddy!!"

Many thanks for that update! Turkey and lamb are my favorites, so I'll be back to Dicey's next Sunday. It will be interesting to try the Beef Wellington as well.

If I remember correctly, the prices are all + vat + service. However, it's an extremely good buffet, and if lamb has been added recently, even better.

The 449 Thb is inclusive of VAT but excludes any service charge.
