If you are blogging or even running a discussion forum that accepts advertising (while being resident in Thailand)...are you essentially operating a business in Thailand? Obviously this then raises Visa questions?

Are you taking a salary or expenses?

First thought is yes.

 

The official definition of “work” in Thailand is "to engage in work by exerting energy or using knowledge whether or not in consideration of wages or other benefits" (Source: Thai Ministry of Labour).

Work is defined to be force times distance. So if you aren't making a profit, then you haven't done any work.
