1.Marriott, formerly Royal Garden, awesome pool.

2.Siam Bayshore, the beach side, always has a nice breeze to cool things down a bit.

I know these are not the usual places board members frequent, but the pools are great.

I am staying at the Areca Lodge next visit, and the pool area was one of the reasons I chose it, and yes, I did have a real look at it, not just on their website !

The Areca Lodge looks great but on the review section someone says that it has a joiner fee?  ???

If so how much?

It's basically against my principals to pay for a double room and then have to pay a joiner fee, maby Areca is worth it?

Dear Wwax:

The pool at the Mark-Land Hotel in North Pattaya, around Soi 1 and Beach Road is very nice.

It is never crowded and being on the fifth floor it blends into a beautiful view of the beach. It appears to be very well maintained and there are ample chairs and lounge chairs.

A nice place to read, write or swim.

Sincerely,

I think its a tie.

Either the Hard Rock (really awesome layout)

or

Dusit.

neither is cheap to stay at.

The Marriott pool was like swimming in hot soup.. where's the noodles... March.. maybe all Thai pools are like that... you can avoid the joiners fee if your quick through to end mall door.. around the side and up the stairs..  early in the evening...  try the main entrance or the front mall door and Mr Uniform, Elevator, Button, Dude will greet you...  Tell that boy to quite pushing me buttons...

Best Pool in my Opinion is at the Eastiny Place , Soi 8,

one of the most under-rated hotels in Pty.

Good value 700-800. Nice rooms, girl friendly

I agree, Daveuk, the Eastiny Place does have a nice pool with a comfortable "kick-back on the chaise lounge" area around it (with bar). Also good, clean, all-tile rooms with a pretty decent western-style breakfast to be had at the restaurant on the ground floor. The front desk has the safety deposit boxes (no safe in room). I'm pretty sure it was 750 baht back in Nov.-dec. of 2001. The manager said he'd come up with a better rate when he found out I'd be back in May-June of 2002, but never checked him out on it as I went to RG instead.

They were asking for the girl's I.D.'s at the front desk, but this doesn't bother me. If you settled on one girl after awhile, I imagine the desk could easily be persuaded to forget about this with a word to them, as they seemed very friendly and agreeable. It's kind of confusing to have an Eastiny Place hotel and an Eastiny Inn hotel both on soi 8... Others have posted on various boards good things about Eastiny Inn as well....I've never stayed there...the location of the Eastiny Inn, surrounded by beer bars, kind of psyched me out. :-/

It's out of Pattaya but I like the 2 gound floor pools at the Grand Jomtien Palace the 3rd. is on the 6th. floor and is not so good.

Although the pool is not exceptional try the one on top of Mike's Shopping Mall, admission 60 Bt. Go in the middle of the day when you will meet a lot of the girls who work in the shops, they go up there for their bait. Over the years it has been a happy hunting ground for me.

Daveuk & Leadbelly,

Have to agree about Eastiny being a great value.  Paid 650 this past trip after paying 700 the trip before.  Regarding the ID card, when I stayed with a lady more than one night, they would not pick up their card so they could come and go on their own.

Stevoh,

Thanks for the tip on the pool at Mike's shopping mall and the shop girls.

Eastiny Place sounds great (Stayed in the new wing in Sunshine last trip, exellent room but lousy pool :-/ ) do you have to book or is it just to walk in, I can't find a website?

I'll be there for three weeks in October.

Thanks!

Oh, I agree with the Mike shopping mall pool but i really miss a bar! At least there was none two years ago.

Wwax,

Here's their email address:  eastiny@loxinfo.co.th Address it to Mark Nookham

I posted a review on it the other day, but I see it hasn't appeared yet in the reviews section.

The one negative about this place is if your a smoker, they want you to smoke in designated areas.  Pool is ok, restaurant area is seperate, and not in your room, but your balcony is ok.

I might see you in Oct, I'm arriving on the 22nd.

Eastiny Place

No good if you like Durian. Apparenty its a delicious but foul smelling fruit. There are notices near the elevators (lifts if you are British) warning not to bring it in.

My favorite for 10 years has been rooftop pool at Flipper Lodge!
Amen, but the staff get shirty with your TG if she goes for a dip in her shorts and Tshirt.

I also vote it best location to have dinner watching the sun go down - pity the roof bar shuts at 9pm

Emil / Daveuk

I am a smoker but if I can survive smoking on my balcony here in the UK and Sweden all year round I won't have a problem doing it in Thailand  especially if I have a nice view ;D

As for Durian and those really smelly small old nasty rotten fish things (can't remeber the name)  that some isaan girls like  makes me puke, i just can't stand them  :-/ so no problem there  :D

BTW thanks for the adress Emil

Wwax,

I forgot to mention that when you make reservations, ask for a room where the balcony overlooks the pool.  The other options will be either it faces the Sunshine hotel or 2nd Rd.
