For anyone that hasn't been to the Grand Palace in Bangkok, its well worth the money to spend a few hours wondering around the grounds of this palace and temple.

Don't let any touts outside tell you its shut, as it is open 365 days a year, unless civic or royal engagements take place.

Oh yes, cover up those legs, even if wearing 3/4 length shorts, and no vests too, t-shirts are good though.

 

As an aside, you can rent baggy trousers when you get there,either 200 or 300 baht deposit and you do get it back!!

Only my 2nd ever time in there, and yeah, it was busy. The rain did help to clear some of them through the complex in super-quick time!

Edit = I think it is dressed in the rainy season costume.... something that I have never seen...

Yep, when I went I had to hire some trousers, also it was effing hot that day, but there was a short shower which acted like pouring water on sauna coals, within a few minutes it had evaporated and the temp was ridiculous, and the only Air con area in the whole place were the toilets!.

 

Had a great day there though, it was much quieter when I went. I thought you weren't allowed to take pics inside the emerald buddah, or did you stand outside and zoom in?.

No photos at all inside the buddha hall, not even pics taken on phones. Plenty of guards inside the room to stop you.

 

I had to stand outside and zoom in to get my shots. Plenty of others doing the same thing and no one batted an eyelid.

Nice work, as ever, Firth. Whenever I am asked, I always say that if you are only going to do one "tour of culture" in Thailand, then this is the place to visit.

And with Wat Po right behind the palace, it is a great way to spend a day sightseeing.
