Laongs Bistro: Gabor’s menu

Recommended Posts

Looks pretty good - like goulash soup. But where is the bistro ?

Posted from my mobile so I blame any spelling errors on that.

Gabor,

Good review and pictures. I may give it a try.

I did a Google search and found:

http://laongs.com/about.html

From the pictures and prices on the web, it looks like a 'fine dining' place. I assume G had the 'set menu.' For larger appetites, they have 2 course meal at 595 baht and 3 courses at 695. Converted from USD, it's pretty minimal for 'fine dining.' It's on my list.

It all looks great and I particularly like the idea of the avocado served like that. However I don't know about the pork saltimbocca - I think I'd prefer the traditional veal dish with prosciutto instead of the ham (ham on pork doesn't sound as good). Also, the traditional sage really adds to the flavour. I am not putting the dis down, just stating my preferences.

Laong’s bistro: Friday lunch buffet

I raped myself and dragged myself from the poolside to the restaurant..... killing heat.... Entering to the restaurant with the hope I will chill down, but the temperature was only lighter lower, so decided to sit outside... and for my surprise it was pretty comfortable, the wind chilled me down.

Let see the Offer.... There was some kind of light soup, but it looked so light like the soup in the canteen of my former high school.... Ok, the appetizers. The salad bar contained cucumber and tomato with two kind of creamy sauces... it was fine, my pet hate if no any crispy veggie or salad. The bruschetta ( tomato sandwich ) was perfect, soft, fresh white bread the tomato topping was tasty with nice herbs, I liked it very much. The chicken wings were correct, nothing special... it was soft and not dry, like in many other places. The german meatballs were soft, tasty not dry... I liked it really much. The Cornish pasty .... it was the calling word: Lamb inside. maybe there was, but I felt nothing from the lamb... On the other side it had a really strong caramellized cheese taste I miss so much from the tastes back home. It was my favourite, I simple adored it.

The mains: ( as you can see bruschetta and pasty again... ) The indonesian ( ? ) fried noodle was perfect garnish for the sweet and sour chicken, which one was also tasty and correct, however I would add some more veggies to it. I don’t know what the ragout was, but it was a bit similar to a hungarian dish cooked with red wine... I liked it very much.

It was strange to me, bolognese on the menu, but no cheese on the buffet table... when I mentioned it, the staff kindly served me a small jar grated parmiganno cheese. The bolognese ragout was somehow plain, no strong tastes.... I can say, correct, but boring. First I tought the pasta was al dente ( my boorish, I like it cooked to soft ) but not, it was fine, just on some places it was simple parched.

249 baht

Small soda water 45 baht ( ! )

Verdict: All in all good value for a light lunch in the hot summer.
