BA Replacing Meals with Chocolate Bars !

British Airways will now serve passengers just one fun-size chocolate bar instead of a meal on long-haul flights, in an attempt to save money.

Hungry passengers who used to get a proper sandwich and snack before landing blasted the measly offering last night.

Cabin crew still serve a main meal earlier in flights but have been left squirming at what has replaced the second one.

Previously, passengers would awake from a seven hour trans-Atlantic flight to a small sandwich, but now penny-pinching bosses have given strict instructions customers can only have one mini choc bar each.

The new menu, sneaked in last month, was branded an “insult” by one passenger who paid £500 to fly from Heathrow to New York.

The flyer, who was in a World Traveller class seat, fumed: “To get just a fun-size chocolate bar is a joke.”

While another passenger said: “It was a joke. I paid £500 for a World Traveller Plus seat and the breakfast was OK but to then get just a fun size chocolate bar six hours later is outrageous.

For anyone who doesnt know what a 'Fun sized chocolate bar' is, its a Mini Mars bar and 2 inches long and an inch wide.

 

 

On my last flight to BKK on BA (My VERY VERY last) on BOTH legs i was told that the meat option for meals were all gone and I was offered a salad.

Then a 22 hour delay and a Couty Court threat cost them 600 Euros and I made very sure I pisted everywhere for others to claim

BA are utterly crap. Their 777's that they use longhaul are ancient and worn out. They even put in an extra row of seats blocking the over wing exit door.

I would seriously suggest punter never never never use BA. In my claim for delay against them they lied 4 times in an attempt not to ay me the compensation I was entitled to and it was only once they were served with a County Court summons that they caved in and paid up

Just out of interest, what sort of money does an airline pay an airline caterer for the usual economy tray of say, salad,main course, desert, bread roll etc. I bet it is not that much.

I stopped using BA years ago as they are a bunch of twats headed by the biggest twat of all in Willy Wanker......!

 

As for the food cost's i know that EVA have a £ 7.50 per head budget for all food and drinks per flight ( Both meals and snacks / drinks ) so i would imagine that most other carriers will be about the same.........

I never have been a big fan of airline food. I eat it, once in a while, but that's not why I fly. If I'm hungry, I'm hungry, but I suppose a peanut butter and jelly sandwich would work.

Probably also to do with the weight and therefore fuel saving on the Plane. 300 or so meals, plates cups etc despite being made from plastic versus 300 small chocolate bars is a no brainer where weight is concerned, despite bunkered fuel being at a very low price at the moment. That does give an idea of the level of contempt BA holds their customers in though. Despite having several thousand Avios points I'll still not use them on any BA flight, they can go fuck themselves.

 

A few years ago EVA used to bring "cup noodles" around and have them ready for anyone as a snack at the galley areas of the Aircraft. They've done away with that now along with the small overnight kit you'd get in economy.

 

there was a time when BA were up there with Cathay for being a high standard of Long Haul flight, however, recent years have seen the gap between the two widen exponentially to a point of there being no comparison, even in the equivalent business classes.

 

Incidentally I've still got loads of old BA and Gulf Air / Emirates "dobi" bags they used to give out when I was a FF. I sold several on Ebay, out of them all the BA special edition ones sold best.

Even flying 1st Class doesn't guarantee an amenities bag anymore with a lot of airlines. Emirates only dish their Bvlgari laden bags out on "overnight" type flights nowadays, although continued gripes about it may well change their policy soon. Most of them seem to get flogged on Ebay by the looks of things!

One of my earlier domestic flights in the USA I was astounded to be given something similar on quite a long flight. Perhaps it was a bag of nuts. That was perhaps in the old days when BA were better......I often relate the tale of when I was flying Club Class and commented to the trolley dolly, 'Oh, when it said Shrimp salad, I didn't realise it was a shrimp, with salad' I once used to look forward to my BA flights to Heathrow, stilton and a glass of port!

 

Glad you explained what a 'FUN sized chocolate bar' is, this is also supposed to be for our benefit to stop us eating too much sweets. I remember when a Yorkie bar or a Marathon Bar used to be a good snack, now it isn't worth bothering, but costs the same.

 

I too noticed my Emirates puff pouch (in Biz) was only given on the overnight leg, but it was a pretty good one.

And just another point the CAA dont give a damn about BA breaking rules either. I made a formal complaint about BA breaking rules in Bangkok and after 5 times completeing their online complaints form I got a standard reply and have never heard from them again.

I gave up flying BA internationally more than twenty years ago, their 747 to Bangkok that went onwards to Sydney was a nightmare for legroom, thought they were crap overall and never returned.

 

Although, I thought they were reasonable on the domestic Heathrow-Aberdeen route, well up to last year anyways.

 

Far better choice of airlines to spend your money on these days.

They are using aging 777's now with no legroom whatsoever plus an extra row of seats jammed in effectively blocking the overwing exit which they were allowed to get away with. I'm, also not incredibly happy about my last flight both outbound and inbound being served by mincing, foul tempered shirtlifters who jusy didnt give a damn about anything.

When I refused the salad they offered and I said they could give me one of the crew meals instead, the fairy just laughed and walked off.
