Passenger/toilet ratio

Recommended Posts

While checking on pricing for AMS to BKK in January, I noticed that KLM's 777 300 V2 (which is presumably a reconfiguration from the V1 version) has 5 toilets in economy rather than the 9 as previously, the freed space being of course used for extra seating.

I have flown this route for some years and it was commendable that there was rarely a queue for the toilets but I guess that happy state of affairs will now be no more.

Anyhow, this has made me wonder if there is a statuary ratio of toilets to passengers laid down by the CAA or if it is down to individual airlines business acumen/greed?

Don't believe it is regulated and up to the carrier.

Dropping from 9 to 5 seems a lot and could produce pained queues.....

I have a bad habit of taking a few of the free beers in the lounge and get a bit desperate for the 'ping' as we reach cruising altitude!

We came back on Sunday on a Thai A380 that was pretty much full to the brim with no Business class. Humungous amounts of people but no queues for the bogs

5 toilets in economy, just need one or two to go tech and then there will be real queues, not to mention the aroma.

Why is it that the person in front of me always takes ages to do whatever they are doing, what do they get up to in there ? lol.

Sometimes I go in there and change into my grown up clothes! Change my shorts for a pair of jeans.

How did you rate Thai GP?.

Decreasing the number of toilets makes good economical sense to the bean counters I guess, but to the average traveller it just racks up yet another penny pinching exercise and inconveneince.

Anyone remember the toilet arrangement on the old L1011-Tristars? They were all at the rear and there were about 7 of them!, in addition to those in Biz and first. Back when smoking was allowed on flights, I must have passively smoked about 400 bensons a trip.

Oddly enough the ratio in business has remained the same (and indeed fractionally better) so perhaps the airline are sending out a message <_>

Did hear KLM are to charge 5 baht on the Bangkok run , they say it's to get you in the holiday mood ,

I rated them as very good. I use a walking stick to walk and was constantly asked if I wanted a wheelchair then put up to the front of the queue when loading.

Food was very good as was the service. Im getting a bit dismayed though about the seats in all long haul flights. The base material or foam seems to be getting thinner or my bum is getting softer but after an hour or so I find the seats very hard and painfull. I'm told Qatar airlines seats are better so maybe I shall try them should I ever go to the Far East again.
