With the girlfriend coming over to the UK next week I've been looking at various EVA AIR options. The idea is that she will be here for 2 months then we both go back and visit the family for a few weeks before I return to the UK. The range of fares is incredible depending on the original direction of travel. Booking from the UK for BKK - LHR the fare is charged in Bhat and I have to travel to London to sign an indemnity form as we cannot produce the credit card used for the ticket when she checks in.

More perversely is the variations in prices. It costs more to purchase a single [ Elite class ] from BKK - LHR, than a return from LHR - BKK - LHR.

Trying to purchase the same return ticket from EVA offices in London will cost £200 more than buying from their OWN web site.

What a joke.

EVA are pretty unhelpful as well I've found, Might be worth trying Thai (which I imagine you already have) or even BA as they have a direct service BKK/LHR and their ticketing dept , while being useless at answering phones in a crisis (Volcanic ash victim here) are actually useful during normal hours.

It is a shambles, but surely some of the Expats here might be able to put you onto a decent TA in Pattaya or BKK who might be able to work a better price out.

I use these as a reference along with Skyscanner and airline websites... http://sunnyonlinetravel.com/flights/

I normally used EVA Premium Economy to LHR but due to my Mum's death I no longer travel to Dorset but to Wiltshire which gives limiting factors with National coaches. I will now fly cabbage class with Emirates purely due to arrival time and terminal...

Just a point old matey. Buy your ticket with a Debit card then no problems, you dont have to present the card.

But more seriously if she doesnt have a return ticket she will be grilled for hours at immigration.

Unless you already know. A Visa from the Embassy in Bangkok does NOT guarantee easy entry to the UK. She could possibly be grilled for hours as my wife was and as my friends girlfriend was 3 months back. (6 hours)

BUT if for any reason they refuse her entry, either you or she should demand an appeal and they are legally obligated to let her in subject to the appeal (which usually takes 3 months)

And just a follow up. We always used Diethelm for tickets for my wifes parents. I book and pay for the tickets online from here with a Debit card and weve never had any probems.

I have 2 experiences with this.

1. I travelled in from Greece and my Thai wife travelled in from Bangkok. I arrived first and waited at immigration for her. We were grilled and intimidated by a smirking, sniggering official who actually said "There's nowt as queer as folk".He actually bloody said it!!! These were the days when I was capable of decking someone and I came very close to it...

2. Travelling in together from Africa. They started to grill us but after a few minutes I just said "Either let us in or we'll use our return tickets to leave now!".

It is important to secure our borders. It is important to clamp down on the sex slave trade but FFS if you have a long established history together you shouldn't need to go through a secondary process...

I know one UK guy who has been married to a Thai woman for over 6 years and has 2 kids and he still cant get a Visa for her to come here. Its the bloody stupid earning levels they have brought in now. £18600 or more or she dont get a Visa. I told him to register as Disabled when those limits dont count.!!
