First time to Pattaya

Wouldn't agree. Bangkok is a must do for a first time or relatively new tourist, plenty to do and see.

Always used to spend 2-3 nights there when I came into Thailand in my early days, then later was travelling straight through to Pattaya.

Even now, living in Pattaya, I like to go for a couple of nights in Bangkok, see the old haunts, have a night out.

Variety, spice of life and all that.

 

I used to always allow 3 nights in Bangkok at the end of my trips. You're correct. It is an amazing city. You can spend a couple of days just going to the sights on the river.

Anyone, on their first trip to Thailand, who doesn't spend 2-3 days in Bangkok is missing out on a, truly, memorable experience. I lot has changed there in recent years(some say better-I say worse) but a 1st timer wouldn't know that.

That grand ol' shithole Nana Hotel is a must for a first timer. It still holds a little of its seedy charm. Not like a few years+ ago but....... Ahh, I hate change "for the better".

I agree but if you miss it the first time do go the next.

 

If you do go, during the day, go to the river and see the temples and the burial tombs and such. Nana and soi Cowboy at night. I have still never been to Patpong. Something for the bucket list.

Stay away from Beach Road after 10 PM because of aggressive lady boys and thugs, watch out for pick pockets on the bart bus and walking street at night do not start ringing the bell for ladies drinks like I do,lol..the ice in your mixed drink give you the shits.

Suggest you make friends with the mamasan ASAP in the Ago go bars. Have A good time stay away from fights.

Not wishing to get too involved in this discussion But in my 8 trips to Thailand I spent only 2 days in Bangkok on my very first visit. Not being a person that finds buildings much more than someplace to get out of the rain I found it boring in the extreme and having then gone to Pattaya I have never since set foot in Bangkok in the 2 years total I have spent in Thailand. Bangkok may be a great city for some but for me it's too big and so much dirtier than I like and the traffic makes it a terrible place to get around.

Yeah I am not a Bangkok pers on due the above reasons, but hey to each their own, but I will repeat to the new guy stay away from beach road after 10 PM just read the Pattaya One paper from last night, and walking street after 1 AM , well I arrived in Pattaya May 4th checked in my hotel on Walking Street at 4 AM walked down the street to Soi Diamond to have my first beer..some drunk who I tried to ignore suckered punched me in the jaw, being a former boxer I jusT laughed it off and advised the dummy to go home...
