Maxx central condos just of 3rd rd

Recommended Posts

I posted the following after a poor showing by the Chabba Hut on Soi Buakhow, also has a post on this forum, .

"I am staying at the Maxx Central just off 3rd road, you can google it, and their attitude could not be further from the Chaba huts. I arrived at 9 last night and was shown to my room by the "porter" , who carried my bags and was told I could pay tomorrow . I was a little concerned about the room as it was much larger than I expected ,having a separate bedroom but on checking with the receptionist this morning I was told OK its an upgrade for same price. If I was techie enough I would post pics of this lovely room that is by far the best I have stayed in in Pattaya , though my standards here are low, but it is as good as anywhere I have stayed in the UK or europe.I am now quite pleased to have been messed around by Chaba Hut and as long as the rest of my holiday goes this well I will be making this place my new regular spot in Pattaya .

PS the first person I spoke to was PattySteve when we both had a swim this morning nice bloke thanks for the heads up.

PPS one other small thing they gave me the monthly room rate for all 31 days of my stay as opposed to the normal 30 day month I expected, really a good find.

One last thing for anyone coming to pattaya the money changers stay open till 10pm and are offering just over 2 baht to the pound than the airport changers so the £1000 that I changed at swampy was 2712 baht less than I got in pattaya this morning. So be warned the difference is huge, much greater than it used to be."

I really enjoyed my stay there and felt lucky until my last day when it came time to settle up for water and electricity. The bill that was given to me had 2 things which I thought were wrong firstly they wanted to charge me , and did, 350 baht for the sophon cable, something I did not use as its shit quality and I us my laptop and the internet for TV and entertainment, but more worryingly they wanted to charge me almost 4500 baht for electricity . I challenged them on this and after a huddle and a lot of Thai whispering this was cut in half to 2200 baht . An obvious rip off as I don't use the AC very much and even at 9 baht a unit this is still a real rip off. So beware not everything that seems great on first viewing is as great as it seems and Thais will always try it on , no matter how nice they seem to be acting.

That is shocking.

If this happens to anybody else I would recommend they ask to speak to Ralf.

Next time I see him I shall mention it to him..How long did you stay and were you on a daily rate or monthly rate..??

Quite often the monthly rate means you pay for utilities just like renting a house.

First, you need to ask them what their definition of a "unit" is.

Here is a thread with discussion on electrical rates which is priced per Kila-Watt-Hour (KWh)

Sorry to hear that Jack.Ive been staying at Maxx for 6 years, the last 2 years all year round.

Never had a problem.

I NEVER use aircon and my usage is around 95 units(kwh).Which relates to just under B900.

Maybe if you decide to stay again, ask to check the meter reading on arrival and departure.

I fully expected to pay for the electricity and water but the amount was shocking and the fact that they charged 9 Baht a unit was also shocking , but more shocking was the almost immediate reduction by half when I questioned it. I have found this kind of attitude in other places in Pattaya but after the really good service I got on arrival and before, I was quite shocked by the callous nature of the con , and con I believe it was . The problem for them was I had not left at this point so had not given anyone their tips I would on the last day , so no one got a tip at all..

You made a mistake as you used the wrong money changer at the airport:

You have to go down to the basement where there are three from which to choose. In this order; Super Rich (Green), Value Plus, Super Rich (Orange).

The rate will be better or at least match the best rate you can find in Pattaya.

There should be a lift down to the basement. Hopefully someone can investigate for you the next time they are there, to see how easy or difficult it is to get there using the lift.
