Thais waiting around downstairs for someone with a keycard

Recommended Posts

I've seen this in 2 different (lower rent) buildings in Pattaya. I don't think they're up to no good, it seems like a group living situation where most of them don't have a key card so they have to wait for someone like me and then follow me in. Just had it happen with 2 thai girls right now. I'd say it happens quite often, like 10-20% of the time I'm heading home late at night.

Is my hunch right? Is it common for Thais to do this and have a room key but not a "lobby door" keycard?

Are they hiding from the landlord or is this just how it is?

The keycards are electronic and so the number of them can be controlled by the landlord? That makes sense. Probably some of those people are staying with friends or whatever and don't have a keycard.

If you let them in you are responsible for any damage they cause.

Telling them not to follow you would conversely be quite hostile for their culture. Not saying it's the wrong decision though.

Good to know regardless. If the landlord ever asks me if I let people in I'll know what to say (he can approximate the timing based on the keycard logs if there is one, but there are no cameras)

I have often a somewhat similar dilemma - not always with Thai girls, quite often with falangs also.

If I see anyone waiting at the main entrance, I walk the extra distance into the underground car park and enter the building from there.

It annoys me that the security guards do not intervene.

I'm with Short on this one, I would hate to see the news on t.v. in the morning, and see "another Farang" dies mysteriously, in they're room, and they figure out who did it, and I LET'M IN !!! DAMMMMMMN !! HA! HA! HA!

I'm the same...fortunately there are 5 different ways I can enter my condo complex.

When I lived with my ex girlfriend she only had one keycard and she got me to call her when I got home from work.

She was a heavy sleeper and several times so had to sleep downstairs in the doorway waiting for her to open the door.
