Bali- Manila-????

I have heard that the Thai army is taking a higher profile in tourist areas.  Anyone seen soldiers in Pattaya ? Do you think that Walking Street may be closed more to motor traffic than it already is ? Will those T shirts with Osiee Binliner disappear from the shops? Will our aim at his picture on the urinals at FLB be more accurate from now on ?

Its a poser isn't it ?  :-/

Sod 'em  I'm still going !;)

Hey Guys,

I heard on the radio here is Australia that U.N troops are moving into the area around the Thai-Malay border to try and cleanup a terrorist cell.  Can anyone shed any more light on this?  Also major warning to Aussie tourists not to travel to Thailand and in particular Phuket.

As I said before fuck the terrorists.  All you are hurting by not coming to Pattaya are the lovely Thai people. Okay as I am retiring there it looks good for me as this scaremongering will put rentals and property prices down, but I honestly do not want that at the expense of the Thai folk who I will live amongst soon. Compared to us have little anyway so don't take even more away from them by cancelling that trip.

What is up with these sad human beings we call terrorists ? Why can't they be like most of us and accept everyone else as human beings?  I love all decent folk whether muslim, buddhish, christian, jew, whether black white, yellow green, aids infected, syphlitic and heck even guys with bitten off helmets  ;D  So what the fuck is wrong with these guys, beats me, they are missing out on so much that can be good in life yes and even things that do not cost money ??? ???

So come on just get on that plane and take that great holiday to Pattaya or wherever you want to go.  Stop worrying about what has as much chance of happening to you as winning the lottery.  Live while you can and when fate has decided you have had enough it will take you anyway wherever you happen to be, whether it be under a bus at home or in some foreign bar.  As someone famously said life is not an audition we are living it in the play itself so make sure we get it right and enjoy it and in so doing you will bring joy to others too.  :)

So endeth the sermon, now go and make your TG happy too  ;D ;D ;D

NO, I plan on retiring from the  to Pattaya next September. No, I'm not worried in spite of the warnings US government is spouting. If you use common sense Pattaya is way safer to walk around at nite than lets say New York, Los Angeles or Chicago. Unfortuntley the U.S. government is playing into the hands of the terrorists. The present policies concerning american civilians and military are allowing the terrorists to dictate/restrict our freedom of movement and demorolizing the public. By reducing the flow of trade/tourism, this hurts numerous tourist based economies, creating an unwanted ripple effect. Bin Ladend  understands that this is a guerilla war at many levels psycologically and econimically. He is calculating, cold, and firmly believes in his cause and will do anyting to disrupt our way of life. If we allow him thru the use of terrorism to dictate where we go and what we do, he wins, Bin Laden understands this,  Bush doesn't.

Well done Lads, its good to hear your positive replys to my question. As a Londoner who works at Heathrow Airport, I and thousands of others, have lived under a terrorist threat from I.R.A & other outfits for over 20 years, I admit to not taking my family to London as much as I woud like to have, but with bombs at Harrods/ Pittza Hut/ Hyde park and Horsegaurds etc, I was not willing to risk it, but that is the point, this filth would happily blow my kids apart, and not even give it a second thought . Now I realise what I missed when they were young, and how these people controled my life, but seing a car cordoned off and wondering if it is going to explode any second does have an affect on you at the time. I will not let it happen again, if a terrorist is going to kill me I pray I get a chance to kick him in the bollocks first .  ;)

will they do something somewhere sometime? YES

Will we be able to stop them? NO

will the world community get the balls to face the real issue? NO

will we lose more and more freedoms, to "protect ourselves from terrorist"? YES

does any of this matter to the average Thai? NO

does any of this matter to me? NO

should this matter to you? NO

Use common sense, hope for a bit of luck, and get on with your life while you still can. The true danger is not in getting blown up, but in having your country decide it is "not safe" for you to travel outside its boarders. a few nut case cult types are presenting the truely dangerous power brokers with a chance to really tighten the screws on the average person. Without the terror or war card, bushy jr. would be in big political trouble.

Have you seen the latest, he has appointed Kissinger to head up the "independant" group to look into security lapses leading up to 9/11. Doesn't his company represent the saudi's? Sorry about the political rant, the bottom line is don't let any of this stuff stop you from leading you life.

It is 'funny' that we find justification to wage war on 'innocents', affecting their lives through no fault of their own.

When it happens to 'us'  it's another story altogether.

The are, at least, two sides to every story(Quantam physics may prove otherwise), so either take a little time for yourself to find out what it is all about or stay out of it, be impartial.

Otherwise you become part of the problem.

Do you really believe what you are being told? Lies, damned lies.

AJ, Glad you pointed out the new security act, which basically gives the Pentagon access to all US citizens bank accounts, credit cards, email accounts yada yada, you get the picture. And guess who is running the show for the Pentagon, a blast from the past , one of the main men from the  Iran-contra affair, who perjured himself why testifying to congress(but late aquitted) Admiral Poindexter. I feel really good knowing  I can sleep soundly at nite knowing a man of his integrity is in charge.  NOT  ;)

Just my oppinion as someone who has lived thru terrorist threat - Valentino, it is not easy to be impartial to terrorists when you and your family are just bomb fodder for their cause, there is no justification for mass murder, even if the killers feels justified in their actions.

Madwizard - I was working in the area the Lockerby bomb Pan Am 103 was loaded on that day , we were all interviewed by Special Branch, and all our financial accounts inspected, a work mate had just taken out a new mortgage and had a second interview at his home to explain how he was going to pay off the loan. So delving into peoples bank accounts etc is not new, we are all a bit nieve about the power of Big Brother. Just have nothing to hide,if thats possible !

We have terrorism here too.

Some people would argue that the US are the biggest terrorists, dropping more weapons of mass destruction on countries who had never attacked them and supplying more weapons of mass destruction to 'terrorists' than any other nation in the history of our world. 'Nuff said?

With due respects to nidnoyham we have had our own   terrorist threat in my country for several centuries, theyre called the british army.

No Sir

The terrorist threat in your country is called Religion

I think you are confusing my country with somewhere else.my country allows full freedom of expression to all  religions.catholic and protestant live peacefully side by side and have done since the foundation of the state. My kids go to the local church of ireland school although i was born catholic.this is not unusual.I cannot think of a single act of religion influenced terrorism.not one.Not unless your thinking back to the time when we were occupied by a foreign power who tried with force to convert us  .Is that what your getting at.but that was so long ago!Under irish rule this country has become a secular inclusive society.if you can show me one protestant person who feels dicriminated against because of his religion i would be amazed.Your not confusing my country with northern ireland are you?thats a different place completely, still under british rule and not subject to our laws whatsoever.that is a place that was artificially created to give a homeland to a million protestants who didnt consider themselves irish despite being here for 400 years. This was fine except for the small matter that nobody deigned to ask the opinion of the three million  other people on the island,or even more importantly, the half million catholics who suddenly found themselves being governed permanently by people who despised catholics and the irish. They were forced(in their own country remember)to live like illegal immigrants,no proper voting rights, the poorest housing, poorest jobs. From this horrendous situation arose terrorists like the IRA.although even those murdering bastards didnt kill based on religion, they killed soldiers, policemen, rival terrorists and innocent people in shopping malls. They killed hundreds of catholics over the years. So i will say again religion linked to terrorism have no place in modern ireland,at least not where irish people rule themselves.PS  i spotted a BBC poll recently where you voted for the greatest briton of all time.Oliver Cromwell was in the top 10.A great man then?well in small irish towns they still talk about the man who with his  troops raped and butchered  thousands across ireland in the name of his religion.Hero or villian?I suppose it depends what religion you are.
