I wasn't aware the E-visa had been delayed so I went online and applied if I needed a visa.

I paid the £30 and got an email saying it was under review.

I entered Thailand on the 6th January and had my passport stamped for entry until 6th March.

On the 14th January I received an email containing an E-visa which allows me to stay until April 14th.

My query is which takes precedent, the passport stamp or the E-visa.

I would surmise the passport stamp

I'm not quite sure what you're referring to ??

When you say Evisa did you mean SETV from Embassy website

It's the ETA, Electronic Travel Authorisation that has been postponed. Probably best to to take a trip to immigration to find out which takes precedence.

One thought I have just had is that you entered the kingdom on the visa exempt. You have not used the e-visa to enter the country and therefore you are only authorised to stay in the Kingdom until 6 March.

I would definitely take a trip to immigration to sort this out, I doubt the agents will have any experience of this situation.

Thanks for the reply, makes sense.

The stamp in your passport for 6th March..... something called the Permission to Stay is exactly that. A Visa is not.

Probably you could leave and re-enter on the E-Visa and get another 60 days permission.

A 30 day extension obtained in country, is also an option pre March 6th.

I plan to get the 30 day extension on the 6th March and not take the chance at Bangkok airport immigration on my way home.

My E-visa was for 90 days, didn't know they issued a 90 day visa for £30.

I think you will find that the E Tourist Visa is valid for 3 months, but for a single entry, stay is permitted for 60 days.

A multiple entry is valid for 6 months, each entry a 60 day stay given.

Don't see the point when a Visa exempt giving 60 days stay, extendable for 30 more is available.

This is not to be confused with the proposed Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA), for Visa Exempt travelers. As far as I know not required yet. (Sounds like a Visa to me!)

All good responses but i believe  tallguy hit it.  Dont worry about semantics.  Just stop at Jomtien.  Call it a visa ,extension, exempt whatever. Don't fuck with the Thais and their rules with immigration. Sometimes they smile and say Mai bpen Rai,sometimes they don't.
