BKK...Conrad, Pres. Solitaire, JW Marriot, Baiyoke

Recommended Posts

Hey All, Anyone with experience at The JW Marriot, Conrad, President Solitaire, or Baiyoke Sky in Bkk please respond...

Looking for a nice hotel for an extended stay of 3 weeks or so...guest policy not important, as I will have a lady staying with me. Just an overall nice place with all the amenities would be great...Thanks for sharing and see ya soon, Peace.

Stayed at Solitare bout a month ago one word TOP NOTCH

Had a platnium suite booked at tha cost of $89 (54 quid) which comes with plasma screen jacuzzi etc ,well upon check in they say "no room " :cussing we will upgrade you to tha penthouse suite :beer :P B) well i felt like a celeb or sumthing massive bed ,seprate dining area with a proper sized fridge ,cooker and well tha bathroom was huge ,the whirlpool bath was big enough for 3 :)

The only downside is that it is a ten min walk right to the end of soi 11.

Hope this helps.

Matt

ps.will try and post some pictures i took.

I agree with Matty on the Solitaire. I had a Studio last Year for 2 Weeks, paid around 2500 TB per Night (They had (still have?) a special deal with nanaplaza Board I used).

Great room, Plasma TV, Bathroom with Shower and Tub, everything top notch. Also great Swimming Pool.

Took me only 6 or 7 Minutes to/from Sukhumvit.

I usually stay in the JW Marriot on soi 2 but this is because of location and the fact that I can get good rates.

5* on Sukhumvit will give you the JW Marriott, the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit or the Westin Grande Sukhumvit. Currently running around USD60++

Conrad can't be faulted, i was there last week... expensive though i think Rack rate is $240. Last november i was at the Hilton on Wireless Rd which is now a Sofitel and personally i preffered that, a little cheaper and more personal i think.

I have stayed at all the properties you asked.

Conrad is still my number one choice and would stay there again if rates dropped back to opening promo of $83. JW would be number 2, Baiyoke is in a interesting location with markets and IT store around the corner. Quite frankly I think Solitaire is overrated as a 5 star but still is nice.

Stayed in the Conrad 4 or 5 times now and it is truly 5 star. The rooms are luxurious and the bathrooms with the curtains that open so its glass between bathroom and bedroom are neat. If you have Hilton status and can get upgraded or access to the executive lounge its even better. I'm going back in November and January. If anyone knows how to get the cheaper rate, please share the info.

I always stay at the Solitaire. The rooms are superb and the staff exceptionally friendly to both me and my TG.

Go for a Platinum Suite as this has a large jacuzzi.Room service both maid and food are top notch and you get a Bangkok Post placed outside your door every morning. Room safe is huge and there's free wi-fi/internet . I can send emails from my ipaq from my room without any problems.

It is a bit of a treck down to Suk Road but the Solitaire does offer a free shuttle to Nana BTS and Robinsons Dept Store. I just tip the driver 20bht and he's your number 1 mate.

Another plus is,if you need a taxi the doorman will get one for you and he'll tell the driver exactly where you want to be taken. No dong-bai,leo kwaa, leo sai,

u-turn!

Back there 18 days and can't wait !!!!!!!!!!

Can I have my commission now please,Mr General Manager?

I stayed in Baiyoke Sky once.

They gave me an outstanding suite at a ridiculously low price. This is becaue my Thai friend knew some management staff there. She arrranged everything and I just paid the bill.

The hotel was very nice and the view was superb.

However, there were two serious issue.

I noticed that the management had placed two men nearby the elevators after 7 pm. Their job was of course watching and 'helping out' your invited guest(s).

The other negative was big traffic jam around this hotel. It is very dificult for taxi

to come close to the door.

To enjoy a sanuk holiday in BKK, I would rather stay elsewhere.

I'll add in my vote for the Conrad (I also posted a note about it in the Hotel Reviews section after my return earlier this year). It's a world-class hotel in the truest sense; you'll receive service and attention that I have found in only a few other hotels in the world. If you're not a Hilton Honors member, make sure you join before you go, because it's a fairly pricey hotel and you'll rack up quite a few points while you're there!

  • 2 weeks later...

Jus a note Jw etc a great hotels, but for 1500 baht you can get majestic suites in bangkok. Right on sukumvit. at corner of nana. Great facilities very nice rooms lthouhg they are small. Very quite, great A/C, granite and marble counters etc. Very freidnly and helpful staff. Sort of like a mini JW. at a mini price. According to the biddingfortravel.com website you can get the JW for $70 but everytime I have tried (April 2004 I got a room for $60 us) I wind up with the westin grande sukumvit or the sheraton Grande sukumvit. Both are very nice but the sheraton is outstanding. I am a starwood preferred and they upgraded me to a suite. Lots of teak, marble big room cut flowers i was there with my TGF and she was very impressed. :beer 2guns

ummm just wanted to add that when i was in the Conrad i had no problem bringing in TG geusts.... i just checked them in at the front desk and back out again after. Took them in the exec lounge for breakfast too! maybe i would have got some funny looks if they had been scruffy but hey in a 5 star who's really going to challenge you about anything? after all.... you are paying top dollar!

Banyan Tree is about 3 or 4 blocks from Patpong and 15 or 20 minutes by taxi. Great place to stay.
