The flipper lodge web site is not too informative so I wonder if anyone here can tell me if the Flipper Lodge has a high-speed internet access in the lobby. I seem to recall reading about this somewhere but I can't find the info now.

If so what's the price (1 baht a minute?). Also is the hotel selling the access or an independent supplier? I'll be coming to Pattaya in late October and I'd like to use such a service for many hours a day and I figure that I may be able to make a bulk purchase of time.

I've never had a laptop in the LOS and needed to login as such...

however, I have used the machines at the Flipper Lodge.. Basically

downstairs there is a small internet cafe attached to the lobby... In this

cafe are about 6 PCs and each has limited privacy.. Never heard anything

about a fast internet connection in room... I'd look for another hotel for this.

Thanks for the info. That's just what I was looking for.

I haven't heard of fast internet available at hotel rooms in Pattaya -- yet -- so I know that I'll have to use a combination of internet cafe's and dialups in order to stay in touch with my co-workers. Having an internet cafe in the hotel will be very convenient.

jtiger,

I have stayed at the Flipper Lodge and used the internet cafe in the lobby. Its been awhile, but I remember them being very slow and at that time costing 2 baht a minute. The hours of operation was also limited. The best place I have found, and use on Soi 8 is the one next to the Sun Shine Hotel across the breezway. The machines were fast and I think 1 baht per minute.

Cybers1b,

I was just checking out the link you provided. The location map is good as long as you know where the Sugar Hut, or soi Norway are located. I think they should provide a couple more landmarks, but I think I have a pretty good idea of where it is located.

Otherwise, I must admit having broadband in the room is very impressive for Pattaya!

yeah, the directions are a bit unclear, it is up the hill past RG - a bit further up, on the right side. they provide a pick up service from the airport but i dont't know the price (maybe it is on the website) - if you contact them per email, they will get back within 1 or 2 days, very friendly, clean rooms, great showers. room i was in was a bit small.

I contacted the Red Roof Inn and they responded promply:

we presently have a 2mbps broadband connection in our

lounge only the cost is Baht 2 per minute.

So I guess the search for a hotel with broadband in the room continues....

Check out www.skytoppattaya.com High speed internet is 1 baht per minute. Good location, cheap rooms with ac,tv and fridge. Excellent value for the buck.

no, not red roof inn - roof garden inn - it was not there when i stayed there back in febuary 2003 but i have no reason to think that they put on wrong information on their website:

All Our Rooms Have the following Facilities

« Pressurized Hot Water System

« Digital Safe

« Wall Mounted 21" Television

« Refrigerator

« Full Air Conditioning

« 60 Channel Cable TV

« King-Sized Bed

« 1 meter x 1 Meter Shower Cubicle

« IDD Telephone

« Rooms are serviced daily

« Broadband Internet

« Laundry

if you really contected the roof garden inn and that was their reply, thanks for the info, but then their website is incorrect on that.

for sure you can get high speed in the room at mariott, i stayed there before with my wife, i dont know if it is available in all rooms though - but that one is not a cheap one :banghead http://marriott.com/property/guestRooms/PYXMC

I'm not sure how I got 'red roof inn' into my brain but I actually did contact the Roof Garden Inn.

Here's the From line from their reply

From: "Roof Garden Inn"

It does seem like their web page is in error... but then again they mention Laundry as a service too and that doesn't mean that you have a washing machine in your room. They should have been more clear.

BigDUSA,

Thanks for the pointer to SkyTop. I was just sitting here trying to remember the name of that place (having seen a mention of it here (perhaps by you) a few months ago).

My brain is obviously failing fast.. I better get to Pattaya again before it shuts down completely.

If you are planning up taking a laptop to LOS be sure to get a hotel with

an in room safe which will fit the laptop...wouldn't want it to wander off..

Flipper House and Flipper Lodge do not have in room safes.. The lockboxes

you can get at checkin will not fit a laptop either..

Just trying to help you plan..

Hi jtiger,

I stayed at the Roof Garden Inn just over a week ago and can confirm that they do not have broadband access in the rooms.

There is a terminal in the small lobby that is available although I never used it.

Cheers

I've stayed in Roof Garden Inn several times.....

"room i was in was a bit small."

Not sure which room you could have been in cybers frankly...? All of them are relatively large and I've been in half dozen of them.... Some of the ones in the back are a bit smaller.

The broadband is on a terminal downstairs. It is NOT available in the room. They do have DD telephone and you can use dial-up from there. They have a charge per call for the access. Don't recall what Arnold charged me, but it seemed reasonable and I MUCH prefer using my laptop in the comfort of my room to going out to an internet shop. Not all that many of the internet shops will let you hook-up your laptop in their business place. Minority of them, actually.

It's a good place to stay a few hundred yards up the hill toward Jontien from ResidenceGardens on Thrappaya Rd, west side.

i can not remember the room number, it was in febuary 2003 - it was on the 4th floor, when you came up the stairs you would stand in front of the window to my room. i found it a bit small for my liking. and back then there was no internet at all so iwas only referring to the website from which you can pretty much only get the impression that they have it in the room. but the plus of the rooms was that the in room safe was big enough for my notebook that I had back then (Compaq Armada M700).

Yeah, I think I stayed in one of those one time when I got there early and the room in the front wasn't available. They ARE a bit smaller...the walkway iinfront of the back windows is chopped out of that room, effectively taking over a meter off the room.

And I agree with you that the web site is misleading. Have to have a talk with Arnold next time I stay there. When I made a reservation for last May I enquired about it before I got there and he was very forthcoming about the arrangement but the description on the website is misleading IMO.

Take care,

Yeah, well, the room was ok for me, but if I would stay there with my wife and daughter, to small - if the others are a bit bigger - perfect for anyone who is alone and just takes home a BG occasionally. other then that, I loved the place. a bit out of town, very clean, great barthroom (especially the shower), very friendly and helpful owner, good price for excellent service. I would recommend it to anyone becuase it has one of the best offers when it comes to value for meny IMO.
