  2. The Samsung people fixed one of my lightening damaged TVs real easy so I decided to investigate the Home Theatre unit that also got damaged. Yep, found a damaged tiny (but quite high capacity) fuse, ordered some from Ali Express, and 3 weeks later, after they arrived on the slow boat from China I set up on the tiles with tools and soldering iron and replaced it easy peasy. When I plugged it in it went with helluva bang that was likely masked by the lightening strike before! Poor limping scavenger took it away on his cart recently.
  3. Thanks, I may have seen that somewhere when I was in the UK (I take a Thai bought phone over there with me nowadays, which is of course not locked). I may also have read that you have to have owned the phone for a year before O2 will unlock it for free, or perhaps you get locked into a contract?
  4. I have always felt a sandwich should be something you can eat with your hands..... The American style of overindulgence makes that impossible.... now I ain't saying that is bad, but I don't want to have to change shirt before I go out on the razz, or be seen badly stained, above the waistline too!
  5. First Class passengers won't mind after they are settled in this. Interesting here is that the aircraft will be a 777-300ER configured with their fancy new First Class, and be on the ground at Stanstead for 7 hours. It's like they are flying people in and out for a dinner meeting! Some of your comments are mirrored in the link above.
  6. A bit late now but you can ask Vodaphone for the unlock code. I did it once for O2 and they charged me £15, Vodaphone suggest it is free. They suggest sometimes in can be done within 24 hours, BUT some phones can be 10 days.
  7. It is rubbish using the special Firefox ESR on an old Vista laptop, jumping all over the place with the profusion of adds. But better on Win 7 as it is the newer Firefox but I seem to have problems where Flash player is needed... and I think that is the problem, so many adds are animated and data and processing heavy. Get better results with Chrome but now and again Chrome hangs when I am posting and I can lose a typed post. All in all Thai Visa is offering a frustrating experience in it's effort to garnish advertising revenue.
  8. People always mention transferring the numbers to the new SIM, but in reality you could just have them stored on the phone. That might be useful as you could insert a Thai SIM without any contacts.and add 'ones you make' to it... to the SIM itself. Then it can be chucked after copying any you may wish to keep down to the phone. Most people seem to recommend getting sorted at the airport. Also I don't know why Tuk Com is mentioned as if it is the only place in town.. for me it is a nightmare to get to and park, and I don't think it is all that good. My package with AIS is 123 baht/week, includes some free local texts and MMS, all daytime calls, 1 GB fast data dropping to lower speed beyond that, and free Wi-Fi which seems to cover all the shopping malls. I have used it to hotspot to a laptop and it was useable.
  9. Depends on how old it is and what brand. Amorn, mentioned above, always gets a mention. Numchai fix TVs on Sukhumvit but generally it is an expensive part or bill. Samsung have a service centre on North Rd, and if a Thai lady takes it in an easy fix can be cheap if she chats directly to a tech. Then again, I saw a great 49 inch Samsung full HD Smart TV for sale in Home-Pro for 19000, the new one on Sukhumvit. Check these out. It's sale time.
  10. Sea snakes may not be the most venomous in the world, however, their venom is more toxic than that of Mojave rattlesnakes and king cobras. Sea snakes venom contains some of the same chemicals found in cobra venom, only more concentrated in form. I might worry, but it is just the filth of the sea in the Jomtiem, Pattaya and Wong Amat areas that would keep me out. Concentrations of stinging jellyfish have also been a concern.
  11. Stansted not such a good choice at the moment, their runway has been closed after snow. Passengers stranded at the airport.
  12. Cool and rainy in Pattaya.

  13. I like the sound of that but just wish I understood it...
  14. Err on the likelihood that they won't let you register a guest daily at 3am, when you bring her back, but they would rather collect 1000 baht off you.
  15. Beware counterfeit goods. Regency brandy bought from a Tesco convenience store not the real deal!

  16. Willow,
  17. Renamed Darlie and the face has been whitened out! Still remember many years ago on a business trip to China, the old toothpaste was available and an American colleague bought a few tubes. He said he had quite a few black friends and it would be a bit of a laugh in the guest bathroom. I think we have lost the humour in modern times.
  18. Cold spell has broken.

  19. Aww, wish you hadn't posted that. now I have a strong desire to try this out to feed my hypochondria.
  20. Yes, the fruit is much sweeter when you don't pay for it.
  21. I will repeat my comment to the stewardess I made flying my last Club World jaunt. "I didn't realise 'shrimp salad' meant a shrimp and salad!"....
  22. John Hurt
  23. Can't afford Villa......
  24. Well that and having to use old 777's to and from Bangkok, and the timings that don't really suit someone wanting to get a shuttle from Heathrow are unlikely to get me off the Emirates A380. The seat and facilities doesn't look very good and, even though it is vegetarian, what a crappy meal. A shame really, as getting the whole ride over with in one step, like Thai and Eva, offer is attractive, and the transfer in T5 to domestic is easy. Fallen a long way has the old Club World, while the competition strives and improves its offerings. I wonder what price he paid relative to other carriers.... you get an impression so many corner are cut here that it is circular. Even the puff-pouch is crappy.
