I said it because I believe there is a very high percentage of those in the Perth area that have UK roots. But there isn't a high population of local people, Perth itself having only 2mil, most of the WA total of 2.5 mil. Perth is quite an isolated city, the nearest other big city being Adelaide 2,000 km away. I don't imagine many Aussies will connect through Perth, most seem to hate the place who don't live there! More rather get on with the trip and head NW. So I wonder if it will make Qantas money. Manchester non-stop to Bangkok is my dream, but NOT BA!

I think it is groundbreaking for people with UK links in Western Australia, and UK people wishing to travel to WA. I know some of these... not sure if they will use it though. One friend booked a while ago and is on Emirates.

Well LA to Bangkok comes up as over 8000 miles, the max range of an A380 as 9000, maybe that is just not enough of a margin. A Dreamliner is a bit less range so even closer. You are going to get the wind against you one way too!. Thai used to do it, mustn't be viable. I can do 11 hours but much more would 'do me 'ed in'......

Well what it costs and what is paid by airlines may not be related. Gate sure is more convenient for the passengers in Manchester, where it always seems to be raining! The old Qatar airport was always buses to and from the plane too. Perhaps pay by the hour... can't remember how fast they turned the plane around.

Not a cost factor involved too? You would sort of expect gate parking to be at a premium.

That has happened to me frequently on arriving at Manchester on Qatar, and even once or twice on departure. Not sure what their policy is on it but I am not impressed when it happens.
