  1. The fact that he kept it 'in the back' suggests he wasn't carrying it as a weapon.... well maybe. Most carry their wheel brace under their seat if that is the reason for it.
  2. Well in reality, take out an 11 year old aircraft and replace it with a new one will reduce the average age! So not a false statement, just one you seem to be struggling to accept.
  3. There are many likely reasons... Leasing cost....reports say that airlines typically pay an average of $1.7 million a month for the privilege of having an A380 in their fleet. Brendan Sobie, an analyst at CAPA Center for Aviation, expects Singapore Airlines to return all five of the early A380 jets in its fleet. "Their fleet plan and strategy has always been to replace those aircraft. Early model airplanes come with limitations and Singapore Airlines never wanted to be stuck with remarketing these five airplanes," Mr. Sobie said. The A380's size has become its disadvantage as airlines prefer relatively smaller planes such as the Airbus A350 and rival Boeing Co.'s 787 Dreamliner that can fly nonstop to their ultimate destinations, bypassing major hubs such as London and Singapore. The demand for point-to-point connectivity has grown faster than the traffic at major hub airports in recent years. SQs older 777-200 and 200ERs will be replaced by the A350-900 What the airline says in a public statement may not fully be what prompted the decision behind closed doors. I believe from what we have discussed that SQs original decision to lease these aircraft, rather than buy them, is looking like a good one. And here we are, 11 years later, and they are carrying through with what was likely their original plan. A bit of guesswork on my part, my experience of buying $370,000,000 items is rather limited.
  4. You seem to be talking rubbish. The 787s are on order with Boeing by SQ. Replacing an old design A380 or two is their decision, it seems wise to offload leased aircraft first, particularly as the exact model is to be replaced. In your post above, you suggest firstly they are scrapping A380 they do not own...duh! Then you state their fleet includes My checks indicate they do not operate any 747 at the moment, their last 747-400 flight was in 2012. This makes it very difficult for them to retire something they do not have, in preference, and impossible to retire something of similar passenger capacity. Duh! What? United numbers were given to support my statement that SQ have a modern fleet, certainly more modern than the worlds 3rd largest carrier. I am perplexed by your foolish pursuance of this tack. If you want to replace our old absent fool here deriding the A380, do so directly. Then I might ask you why SQ ordered 5 more to replace the leased ones they are getting rid of. Tried, tested and obviously they are happy with them as they are to be replaced with a new model! We are on the public area of the board, please be civil.

  6. Perhaps it is full of cargo!
  7. Getting rid of leased 10 year old birds in favour of brand new ones and buying 30 new 787-10 aircraft sounds like a strong effort to modernise. If you suggest keeping a 10 year old A380 and getting rid of a 14 year old 747 (which they don't have ) you are not appreciating their demographics. Actually amused by your figures above....here is a figure for United Boeing 747 12 21.8 years!
  8. I get the idea he lives in Thailand, has a wife and kid etc etc. Not so easy to get out. It might have been better to keep his head down earlier.

  10. Yes I saw the white car force it's way past and push in front previously before the machete was produced, at about -1.50, but there was something happened just before that that skipped as the white car was previously in front. There was a good bit of argy-bargy going on. I have been in similar circumstances myself, once particularly with a large van with BKK plates as the traffic queued impatiently on Soi Yume to get to Klang... the Klang/Suk junction was closed at the time. I was on my fuxing bike at the time and he nearly knocked me off. Road rage seems to be on the up and up. It seems to be an urgency in local drivers in that they have to pass even if it benefits little... how many times have I had someone pass far too close to then pull in front of me and brake to make a left turn! Fortunately I won't have to be taking or picking up kids for school and being 50 years too late!
  11. What on earth are you talking about? Who mentioned scrapping it? SQ leased the first ever produced A380, and SQ have decided 19 of them fulfils their requirements. It is a leased aircraft they are returning to the leasing company, as they pride themselves in having a modern fleet. If they were such a disaster would SQ be replacing this and the other four leased A380s with ones ordered and due for delivery in 2018 and 2019? Your post appears to be more of a windup. The earliest model A380s were slightly heavier than the more recently built ones, so it’s not surprising that they’re less desirable. Furthermore, Singapore does have an aggressive fleet renewal plan, with a total of 62 A350 and 30 787-10 aircraft on order, so they’ll be able to grow plenty without keeping the A380 around.
  12. Yes the printed receipts that come out of the tills here do fade off pretty quickly, it is a conspiracy! Now I am looking for somewhere to take a few items to be fixed, electronics. I have one item at Numchai already, hopefully to be fixed free under the extended warranty I got there. As to others, well I read some negatives about both Numchai and Samsung service centre being rip-offs. The latter isn't a great place to park and carry a bloody great TV in either! I was experimenting with my pad and using wireless connect to use my TV as a display (only supported on Win 8.1 and 10), but the time lag when using a wireless keyboard is annoying, and the pad's little processor is struggling with all the work. My Win 7 laptop, with the fried HDMI,, well I will try a VGA to HDMI convertor. I set that up for a friend once and it worked OK... just not sure it will work for UHDTV. Might be a new laptop yet!!! So, I need a good repair place, easy to park and load and fair and reliable. So leave Tukcom, Samsung and Numchai out (or tell me I am wrong!). I have heard rumour of a paraplegic guy up Nerm Plab Wan who does mainly TVs. I got 1 TV, 1 Home theatre and a cheapo DVD player I would like to get fixed for not too much. Recommendations appreciated.

  19. Or wearing motorcycle helmets Or smoking in bars Or fixed fares for motorcycle taxis. Or sontaews only using stopping zones Or banning songtaews on Buakhao Or removing hundred of rental bikes blocking parking etc etc etc ad infinitum
  20. I used to get sent to other countries to go fix them! More than a few times! Where are you on this early retirement option you mentioned some months back?
  21. I am 62, at some point you have to admit your head has no room left! You decided to become a console watcher! I used to program them beep beeps designed to wake you up! I really just like to stream UK TV and be able to watch the odd TV series , for free! So far nearly 50,000 baht spent, upgraded the TV, and a new automatic gate motor/controller. Seemed sensible to upgrade and not fix stuff that already had past issues. Bloody Thailand though, just got out the receipt for my small bedroom TV, bought from Tesco, to see I have only had that for 8 months, and tried to call the numbers listed on it to see where I could take it to be repaired. None of the phone numbers on it work!!!
  22. Asmor? Perhaps that is 'As for'? I was trying to look for alternatives to HDMI out, Simply, to use my TV as a remote monitor. I also control the laptop through the TV monitor. What you suggest here is new technology to me and I don't really understand it. I see it plugs into HDMI on the TV. What is done or needed at the laptop end?
