My Mrs went to the final day of the boat races while I was at the Expats Club and visiting. At the Hwy 3240 end there is a motocross track and she watched there for a while. Much more entertaining, as the action was continuous. I wonder what the schedule is on that as it is an great sport and I would like to spend an afternoon there. Good pics opportunity too.....

Well I erroneously posted them as occurring the weekend prior, (in my profile feed), then learned myself on Friday they were this weekend. I think I got some confusion of them being the 15th annual longboat races with them being on the 15th. : Not sure how I could have posted a pictorial report much before the event though. It is Loy Kratong on Wednesday, International Firework comp Fri/Sat 27th/28th and Kings Birthday 5th.

The Pattaya Boat races are on, now that I have got the date correct, Sat/Sunday, 21st and 22nd November out at the Maprachan lake, well down soi Siam Country Club Rd. Parking available at 20 baht for cars and trucks, rather a rough dirt track to get to it though. You can also access it from the other side, Hwy 3240. Usual selection of eateries and food stalls, junk markets and a bit of entertainment laid on, but overall a shadow of the events past years. After walking the stalls at the road there is a steep steel 100 step climb to the top of the lake bank where, if you had the sense to bring a mat and a cushion you can sit and watch the boats race. A lot of hard stones on the bank! Cold drinks are available, and necessary if the sun is out as you will be lucky to find shade unless you brought it with you. (ie bring a brolly). No cold beer being sold, so bring that too if you need it, but I am thinking you might need to be discreet drinking, as I saw others being. You get quite a mix of people, tourists, Thai lady escorting a farang, local families complete with bags and bags of snacks. They sure can make a mess. The boats are long... holding about 50 men, and more oars than Walking St. The noise from the commentators, incessant and irritating but in good spirits. Finals on Sunday. Come on lads, get over to the starting point. Enjoying the day. A drone in the sky for those good action shots and crowd views. An old fashioned boom camera too. Mrs, easily entertained and hiding from the sun as usual.

In my early days living on Soi Siam CC there were some grisly incidents at those crossings. Barriers on Beach Rd would be fun for the few minutes they worked. I have enough issues with those damned self appointed police that stop traffic so that their herd of wet Chinese can cross to their coach!

I have already booked a room with a sea-view which will afford a great balcony spectacle of the firewerks (sic), and of course will sit in a deckchair on the beach like I did last year leaving the room unused until much later. What is all that long number thingy in the OP? Doesn't work for me.

Well I did say there was a guy in front of me did something, and in and out in 10 minutes, but in person. The bar coded slip was given to me on my previous visit. My friend, you should see a few of the frying pans that get used around the UK, many believe you should never wash the frying pan as you take the goodness out of it! These are of course coal shovels meant for fuelling steam trains, which they still have on the Island! Shit is moved using pitchforks and spades, the long handles they have are rather inconvenient in the confines of a railway station cafe. I suppose they might work for getting pizza out of the ovens. I would also point out that before I 'licked the plate', all the paint was intact, and I was happily knocking back a pint of Okells soon after. The English though, have managed to master cutlery, rather than eating with unwashed fingers.

Mine went swimmingly, and since I have the bar-coded slip no TM47 required. I did have a Homer Simpson 'duh' moment as the guy one in front of me slapped down half a dozen passports for some damned construction company I guess! Nevertheless in and out in 10 minutes and soon after having my back kneaded in a nice cool room. (It has been rather hot lately has it not?). Extension renewal next month, in the midst of peak season, steel yourself jacko!

Same place mate! Just last May. We gave it a try but I prefer the breakfast in the cafe in the small Market Hall place near the Quay.

Well getting out of there to head beach-ward will not be too bad as the Klang traffic is much reduced due to the tunnel work. I used to like The Nova park one bedroom suites (near Jamiesons), but that was many years ago and I cannot vouch for the condition in modern times, and again a little off the beaten track.

I had a fry up breakfast served on a shovel last time I was in the UK!

Well not as easy as the PI obviously, but at the moment I don't find it excessively onerous. It is for those much older. I am sure we can all come up with suggestions to make it better (for us). I just wonder if one day they will 'tire' of all us old guys hanging around. Surely they will make it more profitable, ie expensive...... Just reading on Thai Visa how a man's wife was fined a large sum, as she had not submitted TM30s for many years.... just like me and many. The thought of a heavy fine hanging over me (and my belief they do enjoy the windfall) is a little disconcerting.

Is it not down that St by Foodland? You will be getting motor-cycle taxis down to and from the end of the street. Not very central....... anyhow I suspect you know where it is.
