  1. Wow, a cool 23 DegC when I opened the doors this morning. A pleasant start.

  2. Same same BKK Bank(no OTP needed). There is a selection of amounts to top-up. I tend to do a True and my AIS top ups at the same time and marvel at the simplicity of it.
  3. I noticed it suddenly dived down at 0600 GMT yesterday, the reason was the £ dropping (rather than baht rising) as it also fell v US$. It seems to have climbed back up later in the day. Rates aren't changing on the Thailand Bank websites at the moment as it is Songkran holiday but I keep expecting improvement on the £. What with an improving economy and discovering oil in England! Must be that crappy Euro holding us back, or the fear of Labour getting elected. Do right by the country and vote the UKIP in GE!!!
  4. So there would be a change in Dubai as well as Sciphol? Just a coincidence as someone I know just got an extremely good price for a Y Class flight BKK-Scotland (via Schiphol) on KLM, so they are offering some deals at the moment.
  5. Well I just felt that when one lives here, your needs can change over a relatively small period of time. Until you actually do so your idea of location and needs are not firmed up. Myself I lived in town for a while in a small place and decided I wanted more room and less hustle and rented a small house slightly out of town, and even then after another year, decided I wanted more space and bought a larger house further out of town. But I have good friends who are very happy living 2-3 in a little box in the sky, very centrally. I also sometimes wish I was closer to town, but I could not get the space I have there, within my means. During my limited searches I felt rather negative on the RE people I dealt with, some were clowns, showing me places that did not even come close to my specifications, I always felt they were pushing new places with better commissions for themselves. I believe self-exacerbated, as unlike you, I did not seek out a good agent, coming well recommended. But don't over-plan, quite often in Pattaya, for example, a second-hand condo can be found as simply as reading the post-it notices, near the toilet in the Mall or in the lobby of the building. It is a buyers market at the moment.
  6. There are plenty of 'foreigners' who are in the Real Estate business in Thailand. They can set up a company providing they have enough Thai staff. Anyhow, that really isn't your question. I have one, why do you feel you need a Real estate agent before you come here? Have you already considered whether to buy or rent, condo or house, new or second hand, off plan or completed, location?
  7. Despite a rather damp ride home yesterday I am still enjoying the wet and cool spell.

  8. Easy to set up with Bangkok Bank....... then takes only seconds to Top-Up from a smart phone.
  9. Did her/him/it call back?
  10. Yes, +1 rep point from each mod!
  11. Despite a rather dampride home yesterday I am still enjoying the wet and cool spell.

  12. Look up mountain oysters....also known as prairie oysters too I believe.
  13. I have used Agoda quite a few times without issue, it was just one incident that really soured me but I have 'learned my lesson'.... Look really close before hitting that pay button. My bad incident was a last minute decision to get a room in Pattaya for New Years Eve after a friend let me down on stopping at his place. A non-refundable Gala Dinner for 2 I didn't notice tore me a new one!!!!!
  14. Craig Hall (24hr)
  15. Oh a visit to the dentist can be every bit as unpleasant here, I have suffered through a few sessions in both places. I did have a friend with a similar phobia and if I recall correctly she could get knocked out only at the BHP.
  16. Anthony Hopkins
  17. I often wonder if they even own the cameras. The types wandering around trying to take pictures look very poor and often not Thai. I had the thought they were organised like the trinket sellers and the women with a sad looking lolling infant.
  18. As far as robberies are concerned Butch, I would expect an increase this time of year. They want funds to celebrate Songkran. The particular crimes you mention were not all robbery assaults, some were incidents between drunks and locals, a drunk Pole picking a fight in a GGB and another drunk perhaps playing grab-ass with a stranger. I don't think we see the whole picture when it comes to the reporting of crimes here, I have this recollection that the news outlets were not supposed to show too many incidents that put Thailand in a bad light, and balance those they did with a feel good story (taxi driver returns money!). Expect a bit more violence and assault over the next 12 or so days, one reason I stay out of town.
  19. Do you mean a tourist in Thailand claiming for a theft off his home insurance back in say USA? I suppose it depends on the policy but more likely claimable on their travel insurance. As to say an Expat claiming for theft off his home insurance, the policies I saw rarely included valuables and you were expected to demonstrate you had them, cash would be a tough one.
  20. I could watch films via streaming and android boxes back in the UK, why come all the way to Thailand to do it? Too busy looking for girls in bars devoid of them. Actually haven't bought a DVD from a street vendor for a bit, nor do I play a DVD at home much... just now and again I will look through a pile handed me while in a bar... beats having my picture taken using an ancient polaroid camera, while biting the head off a slow Loris. Might be able to work on the pile of unwatched DVDs over Songkran
  21. No, the one in Pattaya, on the now Dicey Reillys location, opened well before the Jomtiem one. There was initially a Shenanigans in town under the Marriott, which then moved across the road and then expanded resulting in another Shenanigans this time in Jomtien. Source... Pattaya Mail March 2013
  22. Quite a thunderstorm yesterday, and then settled to light rain for a few hours. That was refreshing.

  23. Well a positive sounding response from the owner. Pattaya Go-Go Bar owner decides to shut and re-train staff following assault on Tourist. Pattaya One I might have sacked them.
  24. Thx for feedback Idefix. Do I really want to forego my excuse to be in a MP on the next street?
