  1. Define won't work Gary......can't make calls but will receive or unable to get onto the network? As far as putting it into a Thai ladle's name, I go along with Gonzo above. I normally look down on people who take this lazy option of everything in her name... and getting her to sort it! A disaster, or at best a lot of inconvenience, waiting to happen.
  2. Having taken the slow bus out of Nong Khai I would say rent a truck and give yourself the freedom. It was an adventure and looking back I am glad I did it, but uncomfortable, slow, and hot.
  3. A River Runs Through It
  4. Pulp Fiction....The Wolf (Harvey Keitel) This isn't a school; it's a prison. A real prison.
  5. An update on the roadworks. I drove South up the railway line bypass Sunday morning. Normal at the Soi Siam CC road, able to turn right onto it. Stopped at the bank near Numchai, on Suk, work seems to be mainly ripping out of the trees in the central reservation but no major digging. I would say still getting the layout sorted and closing lanes. Also able to turn right South-bound from Suk onto Klang as normal. Returning later in the afternoon, slow and busy at the Klang/Suk junction, but no worse than a week earlier. The Soi Siam CC lights are disabled, just flashing amber now and there were some traffic cones attempting to prevent right turns off Suk Northbound, although traffic cones don't stop motorcycles and they had been moved around somewhat. Obviously getting out of Soi Siam CC to head North would be nigh impossible for all bar cement trucks. I expect it will be closed off properly soon. I passed by and (illegally) got onto the motorway flyover to rejoin the railway-line bypass Rd. Some pics at 10am from the pedestrian bridge.. Southbound Sukhumvit. Northbound Sukhumvit Southbound Rt turn to Klang/ Exiting Klang to Northbound Suk.

  11. Some reports that there were problems with one engine, and they may erroneously have restarted the other one. A source BBC
  12. If it was 10years ago have you not changed your passport and hence number since? I am sure my AIS uses my old passport number, and AIS *141# returns only Thai text saying registered.
  13. I know there is a LB bar with some scary critters in there nearly opposite The Silver Star, slightly further away from the Beach.
  14. Yes, rather more of an issue than the pretty banned candle lanterns! Wouldn't like to be under it when it came down either. Great fun though, I want one!
  15. Perhaps you mean South of the Motorway? Yes, airport buses, and taxis will be delayed I expect...... if these, and all the tourist (Pegas) coaches start to drive down through Naklua and Khao Talo etc some knock back. Sill, better than Bangkok, in the 10 worst in the world.
  16. I would be worried about the new tunnel too during heavy rain........ Personally I have never hit a flooding issue on the railway-line bypass, ( I have waited out rain on Suk, then proceeded to the railway line bypass), certainly I have on Sukhumvit. Only a number of times I couldn't use the tunnel under the railway line at the first junction North end.
  17. I haven't been able to confirm that you would be able to receive calls and SMS messages while International roaming. But you could be correct, as I believe there is no surcharge to forward an SMS to me (AIS) while I am in the UK. To check/confirm if your prepaid SIM is registered, use the following codes. True *151# AIS *141# DTAC *102# I am afraid the response is in Thai text, but a smart phone (or not so-smart Thai woman) and Google Translate can help you there.

  19. Typical Woody, I think it was on Sophon some weeks ago Crimes and Misdemeanours. From this day forth, all the toilets in the kingdom shall be known as... johns!
  20. The extensions available to tourist visas and Visa exempt stamps has changed a bit since then, hard to keep track.
  21. I think an obvious indication of the impact already. Bloody frustrating how they block up those damned junctions isn't it!!!
  22. Was he trying to get something special, ie a HGV licence? I hadn't heard that they were requiring translations by the embassy anywhere else......surely there is more to this, perhaps they were responding to his attitude?
  23. Bangkok Bank..... if I want to transfer/pay I have a list of those already entered pop up. Add a new payee will require the OTP being entered.
  24. Once they put the hat down yes!
