  1. Hmm, I thought all buildings were meant to be at a set distance from any joint boundary...only a small amount like a metre or so. Let us know what you learn Mick.....but we all know the law and reality often are at odds.
  2. The Iron Lady (I see they just found Philip Seymour Hoffman dead!!!!! Only 46 and a favourite of mine.)
  3. More accurately, 65 talang wah would be about 260 m2 65 wah is about 130 m length.. Whenever you see/hear 'wah' used regarding land, they really mean talang wah. 65 talang wah is a pretty standard footprint on a small house + surrounds. My first rental was 70 talang wah on the other side of Sukhumvit. There are a lot of rental agents but not many detached houses in what I feel is central Pattaya. More if you are prepared to go onto the North of Pattaya Nua into Naklua. A great deal of choice over the dark side and prices drop substantially.
  4. The Deer Hunter
  5. Hmm, an email from a friend in Bangkok suggested otherwise with shots going off not far from his home. He was planning to stay indoors for election day.
  6. A wah is a unit of length, about 2 metres. I believe it comes from 'wa' meaning to outstretch one's arms..distance between fingertips. Area is measured in talang wah, square wah, 1 tw is about 4 sq metres. There actually aren't many detached houses in central Pattaya...... Shop houses yes. You could be paying 20-30,000 baht/month...use the internet.
  7. I stock up and stay around the house mostly.
  8. Legend.
  9. Just Go With It (24hr)
  10. Coincidentally a friend of mine who is far from being a CC mentioned this place Wednesday night. I said I had read of poor food (from here). He said the food is fine, the beer is cheap and cold, great place. I can agree the posted pic is unappetising, but my pal had no reason to up the place whatsoever. Being packed does NOT indicate good food..... free food works that way too.
  11. Barbershop.
  12. Likely requiring some electric wiring and consideration how the bedroom AC is connected to the condenser and drain.
  13. Billy Joel, Dylan, The Boss. Quite a few in those ranks. Here is one with some unknown English puff in a Syrup.
  14. Sorry to be pedantic, but if they had separate bedrooms they would not be studios I think.
  15. Yes, and was born in Highgate.
  16. No consulate available according to this list. So it is PP or perhaps fly into Thailand.
  17. I read a Daily Mail (UK) article where Eddie was a big hit with the women and had to beat them off with a stick! I read the paper version but here is the on-line one.
  18. I was thinking of the wrong one!
  19. Yes apparently, you can 'earn' up to 20,000 tax free and I do know some who go through the rigmarole to get back some tax. I believe you have to obtain a Thai tax registration number, and then a statement from the bank and you can claim back up to 3 years worth. I decided the less any government's revenue department knew about me the better, loss of some thousands of baht notwithstanding.
  20. Yeah, I was trying to figure out the tax on my interest for the year, as the amount seemed to be more than 15%....and it was! I had gone into the next bracket!
  21. That is a great deal...... The free limo service on Emirates and Etihad is of course both ends too, but will not cover a trip from BKK to Pattaya. Oman offers the same at only 60km range limit from Swampy. (50 miles from LHR) Still that is 20k less than what I have seen on my dates with Emirates and Etihad. You will have to be quick, I was seeing 'one seat left' ......but I too saw 82815 baht on or around my dates. Economy is available for 37,000 baht. Limited availability (3 days on outward)...and a 7pm arrival in LHR. Anybody able to give a review on Muscat as a transit? It was just a single old terminal last time I was there!
  22. I recall updating my Bangkok Bank Savings account passbook and getting a 'consolidated' line for the older stuff that just updated the total, then listed the more recent stuff item by item. Bit of a nuisance really as I wanted to see the 6 month interest and tax amounts from much earlier in the year.
  23. Another sunny day in paradise.
