I think that a single malt is a drink to be savoured at home, or in a fine restaurant, where there really isn't anyone to impress. Personally I seem to enjoy the smell of it more than the actual drinking. It isn't ever something I would order in a Pattaya bar, they even cheat you on the crap stuff. Except once in a little restaurant in a place up the hills of Mae Hong Son, when faced with an impressive array of single malts, and being told it was 60 baht for quite a generous pouring, I impressed myself into a stupor.

Not at all..... I despise this con of coming in-front of you with a tray of shots and offering you one......it reminds me of a few places years ago where the shots were a free gift from the GGB owner. And I believe that is what they want you to think too...... sadly you will get a tab for yours and any girls who grabbed one at a similar time. That is what the GGBs have become, an assault on your wallet, playing a man's desire to impress women, to play Mr Big, flash the cash, hoping as he drinks more he will spend more. Be more the fool, from the basket of ping-pong balls to the pathetically overpriced snacks at Tims. Your crusade to highlight and deride may go over the top, and actually be near futile, but I hear you!

If they follow one into the elevator on the ground (1st floor in USA) level, do they die as the elevator passes this magical ninth floor..... if so what kills them, the lower pressure or their brain explodes trying to grasp the concept of 2 digit numbering.....

I was thinking about them setting up adjacent or nearby, where their customers can avail themselves of his seats.

That remedy is reported to not work.... use a repellent (deet) which does, avoid perfumes.

If he is from Solihull perhaps he hasn't talked to anybody in Pattaya yet! (When I lived in Brum, Solihill had a reputation like Coventry) Good luck locating your relation, but I haven't seen him around. Was his location confirmed as Pattaya area ? Perhaps take the picture round to a few British pubs and ask the owners, Queen Vic, Butchers Arms, Wetherspoons, Caddy Shack etc.

There are a couple of 'holidays in the first week....1st (Labour Day), 7th, substitute for Coronation Day, and Vesak is the 6th which I think is a bar closure day. Those holiday weekends often mean town is busy with Bangkok visitors. May is normally quiet, but it is getting hard to tell with these Russians..... they have extended the season. Bars/GGB often pretty quiet.

One scotch that impressed me a lot for it's great 'nose' and taste was a blended..... mind you a JW Green... never thought much of the Black

Would it be acceptable to you if we called a Chinese take away a 'Chinky'? It has been used affectionately in the UK since before we owned Hong Kong and let most of the wonderful people come live over in England. The owner of my regular didn't seem to mind, smiled and prattled on as he served up my 'flied lice' and spat in it!

Oh I was mildly amused by it. I wouldn't be had it happened to me though!!!
