Many are about 91% (22 carat)....but the Canadian Maple Leaf and Panda the OP mentions are actually 100%, but I don't suppose they are meant to be kept in your pocket and used to buy a pint.

I got onto their chat line and the SIM had been cancelled as I hadn't made a call for 6 months. I thought going on the network and receiving a SMS would cover that.

Boy have I been trying to find them......I have an email complaint logged in...... but this is not the longest I have gone without a top up. There was never an expiry date when I did a balance enquiry.

Don't think so, it never did before. and since each trip I put a bit more on, why would it all expire?

When I am in the UK for 4 weeks a year ( 2 trips) I always plugged my UK SIM card into my phone...basic phone, no smart stuff. I use O2 Pay as you Go there..Talkalot... Every-time I was in the UK I put £20 on it... that gave me free calls to Ma and brother/sis etc as they were in the same postcode. My credit built up to £70 or so, silly really, too much. Anyhow, I used to get back to Thailand, the credit didn't expire, pulled out the UK SIM card when in Thailand and put the Thai one in. Credit sat there on my UK O2 account. Ready for the next trip. Then I got a new phone and got in the habit of leaving the UK SIM in the old phone.......turned off in a drawer when in LOS. Then I got into the habit of using the old phone when I timed my garden sprinklers.... it used to connect to the AIS network when I turned it on, but no calls, no texts, in or out, so no problem I thought. Remember this is not a smart phone, no data or internet. Today I noticed my UK phone/SIM no longer connects to AIS, checking via my computer my £70+ credit is ZERO with O2....... I can only surmise my frequent connection to roaming, without calls/texts in or out, has cost me. Whether the charges are from AIS or O2, I do not know. O2 PAYG does not let you look at the charges you incur. How the hell does one keep these fuckers hands out of your pockets! Worse then Katoeys.

I may have been guilty of taking advantage. The lady running the place didn't seem to know what to charge and settled on the 60 baht. When her husband returned from his work overseas, the near empty bottles may have rattled on the shelves to celtic curses.

I think that a single malt is a drink to be savoured at home, or in a fine restaurant, where there really isn't anyone to impress. Personally I seem to enjoy the smell of it more than the actual drinking. It isn't ever something I would order in a Pattaya bar, they even cheat you on the crap stuff. Except once in a little restaurant in a place up the hills of Mae Hong Son, when faced with an impressive array of single malts, and being told it was 60 baht for quite a generous pouring, I impressed myself into a stupor.

Not at all..... I despise this con of coming in-front of you with a tray of shots and offering you one......it reminds me of a few places years ago where the shots were a free gift from the GGB owner. And I believe that is what they want you to think too...... sadly you will get a tab for yours and any girls who grabbed one at a similar time. That is what the GGBs have become, an assault on your wallet, playing a man's desire to impress women, to play Mr Big, flash the cash, hoping as he drinks more he will spend more. Be more the fool, from the basket of ping-pong balls to the pathetically overpriced snacks at Tims. Your crusade to highlight and deride may go over the top, and actually be near futile, but I hear you!

Stone cold sober now, and up and about before 6am so couldn't have been too bad last night.Yes I got your history, the first time, and the second, and the third and the fourth and............. I thought it was Bali, or Austria, or Germany .... If they follow one into the elevator on the ground (1st floor in USA) level, do they die as the elevator passes this magical ninth floor..... if so what kills them, the lower pressure or their brain explodes trying to grasp the concept of 2 digit numbering.....

I was thinking about them setting up adjacent or nearby, where their customers can avail themselves of his seats.

That remedy is reported to not work.... use a repellent (deet) which does, avoid perfumes.

If he is from Solihull perhaps he hasn't talked to anybody in Pattaya yet! (When I lived in Brum, Solihill had a reputation like Coventry) Good luck locating your relation, but I haven't seen him around. Was his location confirmed as Pattaya area ? Perhaps take the picture round to a few British pubs and ask the owners, Queen Vic, Butchers Arms, Wetherspoons, Caddy Shack etc.
