  1. Looks like you are right, I just looked at Etihad and 33,300 baht (£680) came up.
  2. Well in Jan 11 it was around 1.78 and at the end of the year 1.66/$ so yes it has appreciated...... and it does seem to be holding there . I had to get data from your link as Yahoo doesn't seem to be able to go back very far. Are you proposing that I can open a Georgian bank account, in £STL, and it can attract interest at 10-15% p.a.?
  3. I would be careful sticking my neck out like that Gabor...... how well do you know the guy, how many times have you met him?Have YOU invested money? That is the problem with these emerging countries and their desperate interest rates, there is high risk and the money is based in a falling currency. Sure there is money to be made too....if the currency recovers. Your 8% in Hungary, if based in the Hungarian Forint, currently worth £0.00, has cost you. Let us be relative to Thai baht, where you spend a lot of your money these days. Over the last 12 months, the forint has fallen from about 0.163 to 0.140 baht... that is a fall of 14% in baht relative value. Add on your 8% interest and you are still losing. Better to have bought Thai baht and got 2% interest and an appreciating currency. If your deposits are in $, well I apologise, I would certainly chase a US$ based account offering 8% p.a. Right, we have one poster to support the claim... ...anybody else, particularly investors.
  4. Are you saying you still buy your tickets ex UK?I stopped doing that some years back, about when the cheaper ex-LOS tickets stopped being cheaper. The long validity tickets (ie 10 month) surely work out pricey.... short stay ones (up to 3m) bought in LOS, may well save you money.
  5. Good ass too............Edward Woodward.
  6. You might notice that the OP is over 4 year old. Sadly the poster is no longer with us, and the link no longer works.
  7. I just saw this on the news. A satisfying story........ the news article didn't mention the fact that he reversed back over him and did it again!
  8. Well I sort of agree, but I have turned up without my Toom booking, and as I know my way around town that also is not an issue. There was a thread or two in the past discussing this matter and the mention of having insurance was cited as a reason for the legit taxis.

  10. I too got the email, but I don't agree that Etihad are the most expensive. I just bought my next ticket from them as they were the cheapest, well of the carriers I will consider. (Biz class to UK). The new earning ratios are: Cabin Fare Class Earning Ratio Coral Economy Class E, U, V, L, Q, M, K 50% H, B, Y 100% Pearl Business Class W, D, 130% C, J 175% Diamond First Class R 180% A, F 250%
  11. Yes I will cash in my Greek Bonds and send some money straight away!

  14. These were very popular for UK guys years ago as they were easily obtained at a particular consulate. I had a few myself and was very happy.....If you are over 50, you can get a conversion from another type of visa, ie a tourist to a Non_Imm O in Thailand, in preparation for the retirement extension. I agree looking at the requirements in the USA for a Non-Imm O Multi it doesnt appear they want to give them out easily. There has been some tightening up on issuance of these visas.
  15. Yes, but we are talking of Thailand with a modern new airport, not 3rd world UK and that ancient dump Heathrow.
  16. My post was directed at the person I quoted, in support of your comments.
  17. Not sure why you can say that, here is the actual form.thaivisaUSA.pdf
  18. Yes similar to the UK... for some strange reason the USA application requires these references of someone in Thailand.( Try Daeng c/o Corner Bar, Soi 6)

  21. Well I haven't applied for a tourist visa for a while but I previously liked the fact I could get 90 days /entry. I haven't heard that the application requires all this information... in fact I just looked at the form (UK Hull Thai consulate) and certainly those details were not required..... but coming on a 30 day entry, and a day or 2 side trip can also be fun. The landing card asks you where you will stay, but I haven't heard of people having to show a confirmed reservation at the airport.
  22. Good summary, although I am concerned by the ambiguous or evasive statement, white fish fillet. Sometimes you are getting a cheap freshwater fish (Basa), or another freshwater fish. It can all look good well battered, but sometimes I have had this soft almost mushy flesh. Cod is great, and the local grouper would be too, obviously sea fish. Bad experiences and menus that don't specify the type of fish it is, have put me off ordering my homeland staple.
  23. At the moment no, as long as you travel by air. There were restrictions some time past, but now it applies to re-entering at the border. Of course an immigration officer always has the right to refuse or restrict stay!As the famous Joekicker always used to say, why not get a visa. A multiple entry tourist visa is easily obtained from your home country......
  24. Live and Let Die
  25. Yes....You actually get a 30 day permission to stay (not a visa). Leaving and returning by air will just get you another one, 30 days.
