Perhaps when Gabor went it was one of these basic pork BBQs where you cook your own entrails and can dump lettuce and cabbage in the soup...... crap. I do a seafood meal weekly and 2 persons with a big Leo for me normally just under 1000 or just over. That is outside town, I gave up on the over the sea tourist traps when they started taking the piss, and 10 baht for a cold wipe.

Where did you hear that?It seems more likely that they hope to make more than the standard meter charge. It also offers an opportunity to fiddle the records of takings. My experience is that they would NOT like to turn them on....... now you have me nervous that if he does we will be mobbed by angry baht bus drivers.

Well of course being Irish you would have a selection of potatoes in your pocket. Be careful though, looking closely at the mechanism in mine, it appears you only need to make a catch jump as you try to turn the knob, which appears to be what the guy is doing. It is gravity dependent. I have it fixed it in a location where you struggle to get near it. There was also quite a few safes broken into in a Pattaya hotel not so long ago. I am thinking a crowbar would suffice......link

I have never seen these in the shops. At a guess, there is sometimes a stall selling Thai 'wine' in the Malls. I see them often at Big C South, and sometimes at Big C Xtra. Perhaps there. My TGF always liked 'Cooler Club' but I gave up on them as they were hard to find. Spy is crap.

You make some good points lovedog but I might opine...1) If you mean the UTube video of opening a safe with a potato I am cynical that this really works...... It sure is more convenient to have a safe in the room. 2) Normally a 'front desk' security box key has a tab with the number on it! Hopefully front desk will not provide access to someone else. 3) Putting your wallet away at night really only suit an in room safe. I have had a front desk security box broken into... admittedly not the 2 key type. I have been fortunate with in-room safes.

Agreed, I use it a lot, although when the sun is on it you can't see the screen, also being outside in that sun isn't my idea of fun this time of year! Plus it is the opposite end of town for me. I do okay in Tesco on Nua..... but my own stupid fault if I go early in the month.

You see, every now and again one of 'em is nice to you and everything is okay. I actually got some cash from that machine too today, although I gave up the first time as there was a lady seemingly putting a few 100 baht bills into the machine..... and when her card came out she popped it straight back in again. Seconds visit a falang was withdrawing and I swear he got 40,000 baht.... didn't know they could pay out that much.

And some are just plain impatient....... I was hoping to get some cash yesterday from an ATM, and take it from an overseas account. So of course it must be an Aeon machine. I know it can be busy at Tesco in Nua so went the other way, Harbor Mall (Laem Chabang). There was a queue that varied from 4-12 people each time I looked. Beginning of the month is not the time to go, each person seems to be drawing out for himself and 6 family members, transferring money to other accounts, paying phone bills and all other manner of complex operations that take time. A coffee at Starbucks and at least it had clouded over when I left,without my money.

Let us be old fashioned and say the front of the hospital is Sukhumvit, like the old 2 up 2 down terrace houses miners lived in. Opposite would always mean across from the front, so yes over Sukhumvit. Didn't want to confuse the issue by mentioning the other market..... at the back of the hospital. People from the UK don't go much for the compass points as directions, we don't carry a compass (except for the one in my Wayfinders when I was 10), and we rarely get to see the sun to help us. You American guys cleverly lay your streets out on the compass grid in some cities.

I believe the main market is just Saturday and Sunday. Some sellers are setting up on a Friday and might do business... better to just go Saturday...

Is this to relieve heart attack risk or headaches.Or is it a cat-a-tonic?

In my old house stray cats got into the habit of coming in and helping themselves to my pet's food, which I kept at the back of the house. They could just climb in past the security bars at the open Thai kitchen at the back. Later I blocked that access off using some screening perspex, and that green plastic fencing, up to the roof. That made it a bit of a trap back there and the cheeky buggers just started coming in from the front and walking down the side as if they owned the place. I took to sitting and watching for one to go back there.....then I would sneak out, grab my hose and follow it back there and give it a good drenching. Haven't had so much fun since!
