  1. That was another thought, these tablets are so popular I believe they command too high a price, about the same as a lower end Notebook. When you say 'available' do you mean free?
  2. A slight 'cheat' but....Air-plane 2
  3. I paid about 80k, but I have quite a big place... all depends on the roof area.I see a lot of benefit with heat in the house and reduced noise..... (plus if you have any rain leaks it often fixes those too). I regard it as a lot of money to spend, but when I went up there prior to installing it and realised that there was just a false ceiling between me and that temperature I thought it worthwhile. Mind you, I also had double glazing put in too and that cost a lot. I had similar thoughts about neighbour's dogs in my old house..... you know they would have them come shit in-front of my house! Can you get up into your roof-space, removing a festering dead cat sounds like fun!
  4. Sorry I have diverted this thread but perhaps we had finished discussing the Kindle. My aversion is a little more with Apple, deep seated from years ago, and my self protective attitude of not following the crowd. (I think I installed Quicktime once and was furious that it seemed to have taken over my computer and I struggled to get it off) You made a good point, Android, perhaps a Samsung tablet would be better? I have always like their stuff. Can I load something to an IPAd that would work with yahoo messenger at the other end? These tablets (I just read a review of the Samsung Gal 10.1 which sounds good..) are all overpriced though.
  5. At the top of the page there is a link to a hotel detail/review service under 'Hotels' or click
  6. Yes, I was thinking of doing that with my recent problems. One thing I do not want to do is set up a standing order... I like to control who is dipping into my account. As to your original question, distrust and a misguided old-fashioned belief that Thai banks wouldn't get it right.
  7. My cat used to go up in my roof cavity... likely yours are if you hear them so much.I had that insulation spray foam put in which at the same time closed off the places where she squeezed in, now I just have tookays! You need to close off the places where they get in..... I don't think cats will take rat poison, but you will need that when you get rid of the cats.
  8. You don't have to have a hotel near to WS, it is easy to get around and you are limiting yourself. How much do you wish to pay? I noticed a lot of Russians at The Grand Sole, Year ago I used to stay here to be near Walking Street, but it is an old place and basic, and I have not been there in ages.
  9. Aha, but your analogy suggests buying both...... you haven't grasped how tight I really am! I have no desire to walk around town like a prat carrying an IPAD everywhere..... I can do everything at home. And on the rare occasions I travel, well a laptop isn't exactly a big problem to carry. I am in the market for something and wanted peoples opinions, although those with rose-Apple tinted glasses need not apply! At the moment I see a laptop can do everything an IPad can and a lot more, plus software is more widely available and cheaper, true or not? For example, I want to use something like Skype or Yahoo messenger for a video chat, is the software to do that already on an IPAD, or have they hooked me into now spending a lot paying for more software? It's bad enough with a notebook, most are sold here with only Dos OS, so I know I will be adding 7000+ baht to load on Windows 7 and Office.
  10. Sometimes it is very difficult to not give to some pathetic looking deserving case. But I, like you, have become hardened to it. The woman with the pathetic lolling child (well I have always often thought the child looked reasonably nourished), I refuse, organised Mafia style begging, you are donating to some shit's Mercedes. My thoughts are that by giving, you are condoning and propagating the practice, so I don't. As to the monks, well I have become cynical. The head monk in our area likes to wake everyone over the loudspeaker system at 5am, he is often heard berating the 'donations', and speaking in a negative way, most un-monk like. They rarely venture up my little dead end street, and likely too early for me. Even the TGF goes to a more distant Wat for her occasional merit. Her little nephew just arrived here after a spell as a monk, someone stole his mobile in the Wat. I appease my guilt by an occasional cash donation to the disabled rubbish scavenger who struggles up the street. The TGF says it goes on lao khao, I don't begrudge him that. I have been known to give a bag of supplies to shack inhabitants around Christmas, one without a nice vehicle parked outside!
  11. When I go out to sea a bit you see a lot of floating rubbish and get an idea of how bad the problem is. No bloody fish out there either.
  12. Nothing wrong with a bit of ambition! They got the crime rate heading in the right direction to match Miami!
  13. If you have plenty of time you could go on the train! Best idea is likely go to Swampy and taxi from there.
  14. That happens at home too with my own ADSL line!
  15. I don't take my computer out with me..... just a wallet and a basic cell phone seem to suffice. But for those who simply must carry a processor to show off in front of the girls, carry on.
  16. Wrong based on a Thursday night....doing OK.
  17. It was cleared up last night, all had sexy red ones!
  18. So why not have a laptop? These days they are pretty slim and light, the Samsung 9 series being a good example.I don't wish to decry those who have bought IPADS (baaa...baaa....baaa...) but I still see a notebook as preferable, and have always had my reservations of the overpricing and proprietary nature of Apple. Maybe I need to change, but when I see this 'place-mat' I wonder where the 30,000 baht + is going?
  19. And that is why I NEVER take the TGF shopping!
  20. Sometimes yes, sometimes no, normally the TGF takes care of them. (7-11 charges 10 baht you know... ) It is just on that day I was on my way into town and it is no effort to stop by the waterworks, or so I thought! As an aside to that I am currently having a problem with my TOT bill, which I did pay at the 7-11 last month, but the money hasn't 'arrived'! (The bills are sent from Bangkok, and it didn't arrive at the house until after the due by date. Generally 7-11 will not accept them, but I didn't notice, and it went through at the counter, and now I have a bill for double the regular monthly payment. ) This also arrived after the due by date. Way beyond my abilities and patience to resolve!
  21. Yes I apologise for my little error....... In my mind I always thought Beach rd started at the........beach. I suppose ' take Naklua Rd to The Dolphin roundabout, passing Pattaya Nua, Second Rd and taking the 3rd left' doesn't sound as good! And sometimes the roundabout gets blocked off at 2nd Rd (so that you can't do that), not sure when that is in effect these days. You are right, not had a good night out for a while, was planning to do so tonight but just learned I have a young guest coming today, and music festival this weekend.
  22. Well mine nearly always stirs when I do put on the light, and I don't have a TV in the main bedroom.
  23. I told the TGF recently I would take care of the water bill... when I got there it was pretty busy, a few holidays had occured prior.I felt happy to get in a seemingly shorter queue, until the guy in-front of me got to the counter, and produced a thick pile of bills out of his bag to be paid, one at a time. . How did he know I was going to be behind him??
  24. Leave the Kindle at home too!
