  1. To hell with bottled water, I just visited the Tesco convenience store around the corner and the beer shelves exhibited quite a dearth of supplies. A few lonely cans of Tiger and some Chang. That got me thinking so I shot off to my distributor and managed to get a few cases of SML, 865 baht each! The lady in ths shop is telling me some places in town have run out of stock, although I was looking at a veritable wall of Leo large bottles. Of course the SML comes from Pathumthani, north of Bangkok, under water. Prior to this I wasn't thinking this was going to be much of a problem here, hell it is Bangkok, where the weekend and holiday obnoxious drivers come from. But problems are spreading...... imagine, Pattaya without beer.
  2. The BIL started off in Northern BKK (Pathum Thani) and took ages to get to Pattaya, and then carried on to Korat to take refuge. Looking at the Sat pick the options of escape on wheels are very limited!
  3. Might end up looking like WC Fields.

    Flooding

Well I waited until midday Tuesday (Thai time) to initiate the transfer, it had just passed 49 on SCB and looked to be rising. Then later, about 12 UK time Mervyn flapped his lips and there was a little dive. This morning there appears to be rise going on again (49.35 on Yahoo) and SCB at 49.13. My money arrived early today and Bangkok Bank gave me 49.0175 for it, and then took 500 baht to drop me just below 49 equivalent! I have noticed SCB seem to update their rates more and offer better ones than BB, current £TT rates being 49.1287 and 49.0175 resp.
  5. If you are flying economy class it certainly puts them way above say BA, who cut of the drinks very quickly.
  6. I just posted elsehere that I heard reports of tents on Jomtiem beach, unconfirmed so far, but hardly surprising. I have a hotel booking in town I need to check on, it wouldn't hurt me too much to give it up for a washed out Bangkok family. Better that than my house eh? That sat pic really shows the magnitude of the problem. Stick it out Joe, Pattaya couldn't handle you.
  7. I used to dream of such a device when inconvenienced by yappers. Similar to how I wished for a little can of Halon gas when a smoker lit up nearby. I think they are illegal in the UK, their website states. North American / European specific models (model shipped based on destination country) Oh the fun of discreetly interrupting someone's calls.

    Flooding

I was just told that there are tents going up on Jomtiem beach. Anybody there to confirm or deny? Pictures would be great.
  9. Makes a good tongue cleaner.
  10. You are completely discounting BA and Qantas? Actually I might give one of them a go if they left from T5. I did a domestic and was impressed how I was actually in arrivals early! My beef was always 75% LHR. Thai of late has not impressed.....link.
  11. So is the stuff in Merida and Hermosillo crap or what?
  12. Well Pattaya claims to be filling up with those running from the water, and there are shortages due to supply disruption and those increasing numbers. Substantial price hikes announced too by her straight back from the market.
  13. Well the main one and OP have been blocked!Although he has popped in for a read now and again.
  14. Probably get it for £50 at home.
  15. Thursdays only, well half of it.... until April I think it is. Not exactly convenient for the guys trying to get a pension confirmation letter, which used to be issued the next day, but now is it the next week?
  16. Surprised they aren't electric motor driven.Coincidentally just read this... To speed up the current from Pathum Thani's Canal 13 to Hok Wa Lang Canal at the border with Bangkok and finally to the Gulf of Thailand, pumps have to be borrowed from Suvarnabhumi Airport, he said. How about the supplies for the aircraft then? I know it is different stuff, but what is the supply route?
  17. Aren't they extinct?
  18. It's too hot.
  19. Sean Connery.
  20. What about a heavy lace trimming made of twisted gold or silver threads?

    Flooding

Well he isn't back at work yet and the due date is unknown. My point was supporting your statement that the authorities will be balls to the walls to get things up and running as soon as they can. My use of the word agriculture was perhaps too broad. I know I couldn't get any of those big shrimps with the claws (langostinos?) for my BBQ this weekend. Something about floods in Chachoengsao. (Don't hit on me if wrong, feedback from her in the kitchen). The Bangkok post was a little more pessimistic regarding rice crops.... but hey, that is what newspapers do! The Thai Rice Mills Association has forecast that rice production might fall by 15-20% to fewer than 20 million tonnes, but the Thai Rice Exporters Association and others believe the losses will be less severe. Banjong Tungjitwattanakun, vice-president of the Thai Rice Mills Association, said key growing areas in the central, northern and northeastern provinces were affected by the floods, with some mills having been inundated, damaging stockpiles. And the BBC is discussing shortages around SE Asia of rice as I type!
  22. So they have microphones and speakers that work off something else? Hyde park lies between Knightsbridge and Mayfair, quite central and a lot more space. How many tourists have been interviewed then? Seeing as how they are being turned away from St Pauls I doubt they think much of that mob. That one single American obviously has not tried to get into Westminster Abbey, and it isn't just £10 like St Pauls. (I did last month). Access to the Church (cathedral) is impeded, it is CLOSED! I am sure the City police are glad to see some protestors move on, will teh protestors be paying the policing costs out of their student grants and benefits?
  23. So back to Lobster Pot? Have an out of towner coming in and thought I might just partake of good seafood over the sea on the street. Obviously not Mr 99. Any recommendations?
  24. Well it isn't directly on WS but I thought Whats Up charged that.Angelwich, not a GO-GO, a showbar charges more. Hot Girls. Living Dolls Showcase is only a fraction under 150 baht. Source.
  25. Ron Perlman.
