The O-A is a multiple entry Visa valid for a year from date of issue. On each entry you make prior to that expiry date, you are given a permission to stay of 12 months. If you wish to leave Thailand after the visa expiry date, but prior to the permission to stay date, you might consider a re-entry permit to keep that one permission to stay date. You can get near 2 years out of an O-A Visa. Does that help or do I confuse? Are you hoping to get an extension based on retirement while in Thailand?

Well today I heard from a guy who works in Visas etc and pretty much just said 'don't panic'! Pension/Income Verification letters, yes the British Embassy has announced as from Jan 1st 2019 they will end this service. This had nothing to do with Thai Immigration and is purely a British Embassy decision. There has been some lobbying effort and they have been asked to review that decision. The British Embassy has gone alone on this, meaning that no other country's Embassies have announced they too will stop the service. Immigration will accept Income letters that are up to 6 months old from date of issue. This means that UK people should be able to apply to get their extensions using them until May/ June 2019. Other than that, business as usual. Later Edit: The yanks have now announced they too will end Pension/Income Verification letters.

The rooms in the old building, most were fitted with a small safe with a magnetic key rather than a combination. I seem to recall there were also individual deposit boxes in reception. The magnetic key was not the best solution for me as you had to try and hide it when you had a guest! Yeah they were small rooms. It used to take ages for the AC to cool the room.

Is there not still a little one up on the roof? The Lek was my hotel of choice many many years ago, (I mean like 1980s, 1990s ) when I was cheaper and less discerning. The rooms were small but functional, staff always fine. The pool area was smallish but okay, often full of bloody kids that came from heaven knows where in a known monger hotel. Parking for the bike at the pool side and great location on soi 13. Stagger back from The Wonderful Bar which was a common hit for me. Nowadays there is a 'newer' building and underground car park accessible from the other side. I stopped there one NYE some years back, not great, but it was a last minute thing. It is well known for it's breakfast and dinner buffet, but I was more concerned about the hygiene of it. If the place has started accommodating Chinese (unlikely as not Chinese owned) or those coming from the 'sub-continent' I would avoid it.

Stick with Dynasty, why does the girl want the Lek, not a particularly good hotel, old building is ancient?

Darn, 7 a day, they should be selling tickets at the airport. On top of Emirates and others hell of a frequency.

And they didn't need to get permission from the Germans, and the French were on no position to complain!

No point assuming at this stage, the British Embassy have taken this step because, they say, it is unable to fulfil the Thai authorities’ requirements to verify the income of British Nationals. So best answer to you is a 'who knows'. Along those lines I know quite a few people who do stay in Thailand on retirement extensions, but split their time with their home country. It would seem ridiculous to have them show 12x65,000 baht coming into Thailand.

Good feedback... from the link I read... or a monthly income of at least 65,000 THB transferred into an account in Thailand for a retirement visa. I believe this is a change as previously the money could be shown coming into a foreign account. If the UK Embassy is withdrawing it's verification service, perhaps the local authorities are deciding it needs to be seen arriving in Thailand.

Tough times was WW 2 and the aftermath! This is a setback!

Yeah, happens every day.... 12 years plus now, never happened. Now if I got lazy and sent the TGF out with my card to get some cash now and again, maybe one day! You could actually put the money in a USD or Sterling account with a Thai bank, or an account without an ATM card associated with it.

The PCEC meet today, maybe some feedback will get to a BM and then here. The owner of Key Visa has scheduled a short talk for Friday at the PEC meeting, so some think there will be some news. The only other line I can find in local press was Surachate also vowed to go after all agents and their customers nationwide involved in procuring visa extensions with fake documents.

It was stupid tying ourselves down with them in the first place. Freedom, bring it on!

Just second hand gossip.

Did you see any of the earlier posts?

Similar here, a lawyer would need to be engaged and a court order required to order the bank to release funds to an heir. Back to the topic....

If it is a local lady, probably as easy as it would be in the USA. If you are married straightforward, if not, a local will should be made. If not a local lady, well how easy would it be if you left money to a relative who now lives in Singapore?
-
If it is what you need to live here anyhow, perhaps not as onerous as one might think. Yes it has to sit there above 800k for 90 days before the extension renewal, but then you can start using it and top it up 9 months later. You can see what is behind this, the circumvention or bending of the requirements that has been going on for many years. Many countries consulates simply rubber stamped an income statement, or declaration, 'agencies' have obtained extensions with lesser requirements and one can presume officials in the office were complicit. I worry some surviving on smaller pensions and having little capital behind them will be pressured into leaving, although I have small sympathy for those who deliberately break the rules. They bring down more stringent application on us all. This new guy has a bee in his bonnet about criminal types and it is hard to say he does wrong!

Then there is a chance you will learn something there and I hope you can post here?
