  1. What makes you think we know any more? As the following poster stated, accidental falls are a likely possibility too. I would expect accidents plus suicides to be the major portion. Do tourists get themselves in a position to be done in? People here longer, yes, they generate enemies.

  3. Debit cards cannot be used as credit cards... ie to obtain credit. Some people do not have credit cards. My debit card is limited to the Union Pay network while the CCs are Visa or Mastercard. Some places do not accept Union Pay Just personal, I never use my Debit/ATM card to pay for things in shops, hospitals etc, purely for ATM withdrawals. My Credit cards I use preferentially. (I am forced to hold fixed deposit accounts matching my 'credit' limit). Not a complete Luddite though, last trip to UK started using touch and pay in supermarkets with my debit card.... super convenient.

  8. Great equalizer by Sturridge! Is Mourinho losing the dressing room?
  9. As to the question of whether there is work still going on at The Areca , in fact the whole Diana front end is boarded off now. The job seems to have got bigger.
  10. Quite a serious thunderstorm last night took my power out for a while.

  11. I presume you would be registering that you are living at the same Jomtiem area address, despite being in Phukhet in perhaps a hotel that has registered you there? An anomaly I doubt they would pick up on.
  12. Yeah, a bit of a fall yesterday afternoon/evening. Not sure what caused it...
  13. Cricket or baseball.
  14. Avani, It is between soi 13/2 and 13/3 (Pattayaland 1). Yes close stroll to Walking St. I wouldn't think there was much difference between them for getting to say LK Metro. I like the use of the word cocoon as that seems to be what they try to do, and unless one loves the 5 star lifestyle and comfort, I would go with a more run of the mill hotel. They may be less splendid, but more than adequate, and probably 1/3rd the price and less.
  15. Good review, odd not to supply any drinks. I was a little worried that Chinese snacks was going to be duck webs!
  16. Hilton seems to be talked about more for good quality buffet meals. Both are well located right on Beach Rd, Both are located right by, or even part of, large shopping Malls, the Hilton being part of the largest in town (for now). The Hilton has it's own pub which is very popular. Can't be sure about joiner policies, one hears the 5 stars permit it but with discretion. The Avani is a much older building but last time I was there it was looking great. If you aren't driven by price I would lean towards the Hilton but take in more experienced comments than mine. Both offer a haven from the Pattaya experience but mainly because they isolate you from it! Trying to make you think you could be anywhere.
  17. There was still work going on prior to my recent UK trip end of August, I rode past only yesterday and didn't notice... keeping my eye on the road. Will take a look next time.
  18. Coincidentally someone mentioned to me a few French people had been escaping taxation and buying property in Thailand recently. We are very familiar with Brits retiring to the South of France, or setting up business there attracted to cheaper property, any sentiment from you Andy? (Wrt taxation and living in France)
  19. Rates this afternoon. Sorry the pic looks a bit blurred, no idea why, perhaps retribution for buying a cheap $400 phone or not renewing it!
  20. A few inches less than I would be happy with.
  21. Edited....
  22. Upper deck, Business Class, window exit seats, loads of leg room. No issue getting past to the loo. Just a struggle to put stuff into the back pouch of the seat in front. My usual place, mostly KLM AMS-BKK and back.
  23. True Grit
  24. You just reminded me of a flight sat next to a Korean who absolutely reeked of garlic to the point of making me feel sick.
  25. Loads of them on Soi Buakhao....an interesting world going by! Lucky Corner Soi 7/ Beach Rd
