Beach road widening
midlifecrisis replied to midlifecrisis's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
There is nothing that can be done about the bottleneck at South Pattaya and Beach Road short of destroying a whole bunch of buildings. Coming from our overly practical system here, it is refreshing to go to Thailand. I can understand why expats there might not agree with me but it is rather liberating from my perspective. I can't wait to go through the drainage mess when I come back in January. At least I won't be the one driving. -

Thanks, MM. I was having difficulty envisioning the scope of the project. That was a big project then. I look forward to seeing the changes in a few months. -

Surprise! New booze ban now in effect
midlifecrisis replied to Chang_paarp's topic in Idle Chit Chat
Quoting from the link you gave us, MM "The seemingly overlapping orders left both the public and police confused over what areas were legal, with tabloid websites speculating that large swaths of Bangkok, Pattaya and Phuket would be designated... " The postponing of a decision leaves businesses and tourists just as confused as they were before. Then at the end of the article there is this: "He said zoning of entertainment areas should be done every two years." Wow! Not a good time to be a bar owner. -

Beach road widening
midlifecrisis replied to midlifecrisis's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
I am having a bit of difficulty understanding where the widening is. Between what sois is this being done? Certainly once you get down to WS the traffic will bottle neck, making the left turn onto South Pattaya Road and its short distance to Second Road. There is a point where the wide walkway disappears as the bar complex juts out. Business on the land end with a sidewalk opposite. So I am imagining it is well before that. -
Beach road widening

I had read something about down by the shrine and two palms were marked for removal. But from I am reading it was a very limited widening. Or am I misreading things? -
Probably right up my alley since I am used to store bought sauce here I shall. I have never eaten there and I will be staying close by! Thanks!

I always eat once a week at Beefeater when I am there. The owner is a great Chef. I have not been disappointed yet there. Are there any similar restaurants you would recommend?

How are some of their other offerings? Their fries look great too on your plate. How is the tarter sauce?

I read on another board some time back that Beach Road was going to be widened. Did this happen?

This added on to the normal chaos. Hopefully it will help clear the water from some of the flooded sois.

Thai Air discontinues flights to LA and Rome
midlifecrisis replied to short's topic in Airline Discussion
According to their website they still fly to LA but not non-stop as Bigus states. The information is dated, though. http://thaiairwaysusa.com/plan-travel/when-we-fly Perhaps their website has not been updated. update: I tried to go through a ticket purchase and got an error message. update 2: I found this article. Flights to the USA to be suspended and the company will layoff 1,401 people http://finance.yahoo.com/news/thai-airways-cut-1-401-jobs-suspend-flights-111009109--finance.html "Thailand's national carrier aims to reduce operating costs and capacity by 20 percent under the two-year plan, which also calls for aircraft sales and a reduction in staffing." -
Thanks for the advice all. My last two trips I got sick. My last trip I ended up in the hospital in Bangkok. I should have seen a doctor in Pattaya sooner. This is a big help!

I thought I had read that before. Thanks! -
ah, good catch! I wish I could find the other version where he goes to the closed pharmacy at the end.

This Fiat commercial is a hoot https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YAcLViTHDOo (If you look closely into the pill bottle there appears to be a second pill leaning up against the wall. Let's not spoil it though.) The version on TV here has the old guy on a bicycle going to the pharmacy, which is closed. I can't find that version online.

Surprise! New booze ban now in effect
midlifecrisis replied to Chang_paarp's topic in Idle Chit Chat
In a tourist area this is odd. Yes the school is close to bars but the real activity doesn't occur until school is long out. The kids at the school in question (Muang Pattaya 8) walk home, etc and right past many many bars in Pattaya. I imagine they can walk outside where they live and see it for themselves any time they choose, if they choose to. Kinda silly. A law in search of a reason. -
I set up an account that is unseen to my other bank accounts and use that debit card primarily. Then I have a backup of TCs I usually have some baht left from the previous trip for transportation and incidentals getting to Pats. I always have a few hundred in cash for my return to the USA and as a last resort. I also set up a bank account in Thailand and can wire money there from here if I need to.

is there a mongering scene in Japan? I am kind of thinking a big no on that. Or it is very expensive. Such a prosperous country that ladies can find other work. I have to say I have always found young Japanese women very sexy. Great photos as always! -
It has not been too subtle for some time. It is never a mystery for me on that soi.

I found this little article about the soi and it even mentions the potholes. http://www.yourpattaya.com/soi-chaiyapoon.html
